The district is presently undergoing extensive turnaround at all levels, with the assistance of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This creates unique opportunities for teachers and students. One example is a recently announced, long-term partnership with the University of Connecticut to develop Southbridge Schools to be a national demonstration site for successful implementation of PBIS strategies. Additionally, our district is the recipient of a number of significant grants that are allowing us to creatively redesign Secondary School, curriculum enhancements, improved culture and climate and afterschool opportunities for students. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- May potentially work 1:1, 1:2 or in a small group with a student or other designated ratio depending on the nature of the disability and learning needs.
- May be required to run task analysis for daily living skills that may include eating, toileting, hygiene care
- Training in Physical Management protocols
- Based on the student population and census in the building, may be assigned to different buildings for support in PASS classrooms.
- Develop appropriate materials that correspond with the lesson under the direction of the teacher and/or BCBA.
- Under the supervision of the teacher/BCBA, assist in creating and/or editing behavior and academic data.
- Collect and summarize individualized data based on the educational and behavioral programs developed by the special education teacher and/or the BCBA
- Monitor and report student progress to the teacher/BCBA for academics and behavior.
- Assist the teacher/BCBA in the formulation Behavior Support Plans.
- Implement behavior plans for multiple students with fidelity.
- Under the supervision of the BCBA/special education teacher, provide coaching to staff members in implementing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis including but not limited to behavior plans and data collection.
- Experience running discrete trial training programs. Experience with program development is a plus.
- Carry over and implementation of instructional programs developed by the regular/special education teacher.
- Under the direction of the special education teacher/BCBA, complete all required documentation related to incidents, accidents, discipline, assaults, etc.
- Carry out other assignments designated by the classroom teacher or special education supervisor.
- High school degree or equivalent
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicate.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, climb, run.
- The employee must occasionally be able to lift and/or move children/objects
- The employee must be able to work in a noisy, stressful, high-pressure environment, and still be able to concentrate and keep children safe.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, behavior problems, abusive students, etc).
- May be exposed to bodily fluids including saliva, urine, feces, vomit, blood and/or other bodily fluids.
- The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury
- RBT or BCaBA certification a plus. Supervision will be provided by program BCBA.
