The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) mission is to support the NCI at Frederick in their mission to cure cancer and AIDS. FME is responsible for the physical campus - its research laboratory space, administrative space, the infrastructure that supports the buildings, and the landscape that surrounds them. In addition, we are responsible for managing, planning, designing, and construction management of renovations at the FNLCR.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Inspects buildings and premises for pests/vermin or infestation
  • Determine the type of treatment needed to eliminate pests and vermin
  • Control, manage and remove pest and vermin form buildings, offices, facilities/structures to protect people and maintain the structural integrity of buildings
  • Design and carry out pest and wildlife management plans
  • Uses a wide range of pesticides, chemicals, fumigants, trapping, and baiting techniques, etc. to remove, control, or eliminate pests and vermin from facilities, offices, and other structures
  • Safely applies pesticides in and around buildings and other structures
  • Drives trucks equipped with pest management and control equipment
  • Creates barriers to prevent pest/vermin from entering facilities
  • Troubleshoots methods for preventing future infestations
  • Other duties as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
  • Possession of high school diploma or equivalent
  • No work experience required with a high school diploma
  • Possession of MD Dept of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Business License to be transferred to FNL after employment
  • Ability to complete CEU's required to maintain certifications
  • Ability to receive Wildlife Damage Control Operators Permit/License from MD Dept of Natural Resources within 6 months of employment
  • Ability to identify a wide range of pests understanding of the best ways to control and remove pests
  • Knowledge of or experience using a wide range of pesticides, chemicals, fumigates, traps, and baiting techniques
  • Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License issued by the state in which the incumbent/candidate resides for each class of vehicle to be operated on company business
  • Must have no more than 3 demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5) demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months per policy
  • Ability to perform physical duties including manually lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of safety practices related to the use of pest control tools, chemicals, and equipment
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and work in confined areas, potential exposure to particulates, vapors or noisy environment
  • Basic computer skills
  • This position is considered safety-sensitive and will be subject to random drug testing per the Leidos Biomedical Research Drug Free Workplace Program.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience related to the Key Roles/Responsibilities

  • This position is subject to atmospheric conditions that would require the usage of a respirator, requiring a medical clearance

  • This position is subject to working with or have potential for exposure to infectious material, requiring medical clearance and immunizations
