Proactively implements company safety programs to enforce compliance on all divisional job sites and prevents accidents and reduces time lost due to accidents by developing, communicating and training on safety programs and policies.Essential FunctionsResponsibilitiesEnforces compliance with federal and state safety regulations on all projectsDevelops and administers company’s safety programs and policies with Safety and OperationsParticipates in intra-company Safety Task Team meetings, initiatives and planningReviews project plans and specifications and make recommendations to Operations on potential hazardsOversees and conducts education and training programs for employees, subcontractors and owner representatives and ensure programs are effective and cost efficientConducts random safety surveys and audits; implements changes to meet identified needsManages incident investigations and open claims and analyzes claim data for prevention solutionsAssists Project Safety Task Teams with weekly safety evaluations and necessary correctionsEnsures job startup kits and signs are prepared for projectsEnsures Safety team is communicating progress, issues, and new developments with company employees on a regular basisMaintains division-wide records, including daily injury logs, OSHA 300 forms, meeting minutes, subcontractor correspondence, etc.Prepares and analyzes reports that summarize and forecast division activity and financial impact in areas of safety, worker’s compensation, and other safety, health, and environmental activityPrepares and manages the Safety budgetStrives to continually seek feedback and improve services/tools/department deliverables to internal customersPromote Customer RelationsBuilds effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer’s expectationsActively participates in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company imageCulture, Leadership and Employee DevelopmentPromotes and communicates our vision and purpose through Service, Talent & ChoicesServes as a role model and promotes professional behaviorParticipates in company training programs and commits to self-developmentKeeps current with new developments in OSHA regulations and company safety policies and communicates to the appropriate company personnelEncourages employees to achieve career goals by providing challenging assignments, achievable and motivational development plans, and ongoing actionable and candid feedbackNegotiates skillfully in tough situations with internal and external parties by winning concessions without damaging relationships and being direct and diplomaticDevelops/facilitates safety-related company training programsEmbrace key BBC-wide initiatives, like Zero Harm, Sustainability, and core Values and does one’s part to demonstrate relentless behaviors and embeds them into our culture.Perform other related duties as neededTime is split between an office setting and on job sites in an office trailer or in an existing structure. Due to daily condition changes on construction projects, when employees are outside of the office trailer or structure, they must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by the company's safety policies and as required for weather conditions.Working ConditionsThe project team and/or team member may need to move to other projected work geographic locations, if necessary. Education, Experience and KnowledgeB.S. in Safety & Environmental Health or related field and 10+ years of experience, preferably in the construction industry. Depending upon the project size, scope, and complexity the years of experience may vary. Certified as a Construction Site Safety Technician (CSST) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) required.Demonstrated ability to assist with more than one project at a timeDemonstrates solid customer service skills and verbal/written skillsDemonstrates the ability to mentor/train othersSupervises and develops direct reports while prioritizing and delegating significant responsibilities to othersDemonstrates leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, solve problems, and motivate others, while maintaining effective relationships with customers by meeting or exceeding their requirements and expectationsDemonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook)The base compensation range for the role of Safety, Health & Environmental Director in Seattle, WA posted above is $175k to $190k per year.About usHoward S.
