Our team conducts full system level development testing, new aircraft development, sub-component qualification testing and much more. In short, if it involves test we support it. This role will initially focus on field testing and development of novel payloads and software implementations to enable future work on large swarms of coordinated systems, both manned and unmanned. If you are interested in working in an extremely innovative and fast paced environment, where your work directly makes an impact and difference in the products that are fielded this a fantastic opportunity.What you’ll doAs a Staff Flight Test Engineer under minimal supervision, you will determine and develop various approaches to achieve T&E goals and help guide and perform the completion of test activities.This position will focus heavily on new aircraft development, with an emphasis in electronics, avionics, propulsion, flight characteristics, rugged design, and quality at scale.Test duties include system and sub-system level T&E of hardware and software. As part of this process you will support or lead in test planning, establishing test measures of success, test conducting (ground and flight), analyzing test performance, and driving process improvement/development.Required QualificationsA bachelor's degree or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and 5+ years flight test engineering experience.Previous expertise and working knowledge of the National Airspace System and UAS operating rules and regulations thereof.Previous expertise and working knowledge of manned and un-manned rotorcraft; combustion, electric and/or hybrid powertrain.Knowledge of EO/IR/Lidar sensor payloads and the intricacies required to plan and execute tests when deployed on maneuverable rotorcraft.Knowledge of fly by wire control systems, flight dynamics and handling qualities of small, medium and/or large rotorcraft; with emphasis on development and testing new systems.Must have a complete understanding of and passion for engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expansive knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.Must have strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas.Able to work extended hours as required.Ability to travel as required for planning and testing.Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.Preferred QualificationsStrong software and documentation experience; familiarity with Linux based operating systems desired.Able to meet the requirements of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 107: Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems.Current or previous Part 61 Commercial or Private Helicopter Pilot.US Salary Range$142,000—$185,000 USDThe salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
