About Rutgers University Robert Wood Johnson Medical School:

The Department of Pediatrics is composed of 124 full-time and more than 200 volunteer faculty members, organized into 18 divisions covering all of the pediatric subspecialties in conjunction with four key surgical services. The department is undergoing a renaissance following the integration of the medical school with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and the recent merger of two major health systems to form RWJ Barnabas. The department has already recruited 43 new faculty members with plans for hiring additional faculty, allowing us to expand our research and clinical programs and provide improved care to our patients. Our educational mission focuses on the development of the next generation of multi-talented physicians who will become leaders in education, research and patient care. Our ACGME-accredited training programs continue to thrive and expand. We have an outstanding pediatric residency and a fellowship-training program in Pediatric Endocrinology.

The outpatient services are located in the Rutgers Child Health Institute of NJ (CHINJ), and practices located in Edison, Somerset, and East Brunswick.  CHINJ is a state-of-the-art facility that includes a Pediatric CRC, Pediatric subspecialty offices, and a modern research facility. Our New Brunswick-based clinical programs have achieved Accredited Status for Ambulatory Health Care by the Joint Commission, one of only a small number of academic ambulatory practices with this status.  The inpatient clinical services of the division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition are conducted at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Childrens Hospital (BMSCH) of the Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. This is a 105-bed acute care hospital for children with a dedicated endoscopy suite located on the only pediatric academic health campus in the state of New Jersey. The BMSCH is ranked as one of Americas Best Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report. Adjacent to the RWJ Barnabas Bristol-Myers Squibb Childrens hospital is the PSE&G Childrens Specialized Hospital, which is one of the countrys largest inpatient acute rehabilitation facilities for children.  Across the street is the Rutgers Cancer Institute of NJ - the only NCI designated center in the state of New Jersey.

The Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine is consistently ranked as one of the highly NIH-funded academic universities and Rutgers is a member of the Association of American Universities comprising the top comprehensive research universities in North America. As the states premiere institution, located in central New Jersey, there are many opportunities to collaborate across campuses with all the health professional schools and biomedical science schools at the Rutgers University.

Central New Jersey is a family friendly location offering urban and suburban life-styles within one hour of NYC, Philadelphia and the Jersey shore, as well as Rutgers Big Ten athletics and cultural events.
