What's this role about?

The ideal candidate for this position generally has a robust background in business development, sales, or marketing, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of the renewable energy industry and its technologies. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and analytical abilities are essential. We are looking for a dedicated, proactive, and ambitious Business Development Manager to sell Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), primarily within the deregulated utility markets of ERCOT, PJM, and CAISO. Experience in B2B sales, particularly in complex industrial solutions and within the battery or renewable energy sectors, is crucial. The successful candidate will focus on cultivating sustainable, long-term relationships with customers and partners in these markets to foster further development and contribute to the overall success of the company. This role will involve financial modelling to present proposals that may include CAPEX-free options or solutions for operating batteries funded by targeted clients. Ultimately, this position will be instrumental in promoting the adoption of battery technology across North America, facilitating a faster transition to renewable energy generation. The candidate will be solution-oriented and possess a leadership mindset, with a commitment to understanding customer needs and building enduring partnerships.

What will I be doing?

  • Lead the complete sales process, which includes initiating deals, managing project development, negotiating contracts, and meeting annual sales quotas.
  • Oversee projects from initiation to contract finalization, leveraging support from GridBeyond's technical and commercial teams.
  • This position necessitates the ability to balance responsibilities both within the organization and with external stakeholders, including customers, partners, and suppliers.
  • Coordinate internal project teams across various departments such as engineering, finance, and legal.
  • Manage a diverse range of projects with varying scopes and timelines across different states, RTOs/ISOs, project types, and markets
  • Conduct techno-economic evaluations of project opportunities, identify risks, model and optimize arbitrage financial and technical variables, and differentiate GridBeyond's value compared to competitive offerings.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to management
  • Develop and present precise, high-quality project proposals in response to complex and formal utility RFPs.
What do I need to be a good technical fit for this role?

Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years' experience in the renewable energy or power sector, with a focus on sales or business development and client interactions.
  • 5+ years Enterprise Sales experience
  • Distributed Energy experience
  • Proficient knowledge of Battery, renewable power, and grid markets.
  • Proven experience in negotiating contracts within the energy storage or renewables sector.
  • Skilled in managing interdisciplinary projects in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, particularly with complex pricing models, storage, renewable project economics, techno-economic optimizations, and risk analysis.
  • Willingness to travel as needed across the US, mainly and potentially to PJM, ERCOT, and CAISO markets.
