Reports to: Head of School

Position Status: Full-Year, Exempt, 100% of full time. Limited evening and weekend work may be required.

Salary Range: $95,000 to $125,000

The Director of Development is part of the Senior Leadership Team and establishes a comprehensive strategic development plan consistent with the school's culture and mission. The Director of Development will be responsible for all aspects of fundraising, donor engagement, grant writing, community relationship development, and messaging, including development-related social media content. Additionally, the Director of Development is responsible for coordinating and facilitating all school events and celebrations in collaboration with the Head of School and the Family Association.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work with the Head of School, Development Committee, and Family Association to establish a formalized Development Plan.
  • Oversee all aspects of fundraising by monitoring results in order to meet goals and providing evaluation as needed
  • Develop and execute the implementation of all fundraising initiatives and programs including, but not limited to:
    • Annual Fund
    • Annual gala
    • Endowment
    • Grant Writing
    • Fund for the Future
    • Planned Giving
    • Events (e.g., Welcome Carnival, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, etc.)
  • Work with the Head of School on identifying and building relations with potential donors and prospects for major gifts
  • Serve as the key staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board
  • Provide mailing lists for appeals and communications and assist with annual giving letters. Coordinate social media and work with the Head of School and Communication Manager to approve postings.
  • Keep records of all interactions with potential donors and gifts to the school.
  • Review and maintain data for donors and prospects in the Blackbaud database, Raiser's Edge. Manage donor database and oversee gift processing and donors' acknowledgments.
  • Create and be the main point of contact for online giving forms for booster Family Association events and other fundraising activities.
  • Create and provide reports and presentations for the Head of School, CFOO, and Development Committee.
  • Ensure the Business Office Team has necessary financial records of gifts, pledges, and all fundraising activities. Provide requested reports for the annual audit. Participate in the monthly reconciliation process of fundraising activities with the Business Office.
  • Closely manage and monitor fundraising expenses to maintain a healthy balance between revenue and expense
  • Represent the school in the larger community in a positive manner that reflects the values of the school. Ability to interact and maintain effective relationships with donors, prospects, administrators, parents/guardians, and guests.

Qualifications
  • B.A. degree (advanced degree preferred)
  • 3-5 years of leadership fundraising experience, including campaign planning and management, ideally in an independent school or college
  • Track record of cohesively integrating the full range of development programs
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge and Blackbaud or similar databases
  • Strong understanding of the dynamics of the Bay Area and MP&MS's niche within it
  • Experience in creating departmental budgets and in supervising development and constituent relations administration
  • Proficiency in the use of technology to enhance communications, research, and presentations.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Belief in the value of strong collaboration and teamwork
