ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsible for High Voltage Engineering for renewable energy plant interconnecting substations and transmission lines involving medium and high voltage (34.5 kV to 500kV) equipment.
  • Prepare substation and transmission line scopes of work, specifications and other technical documentation required to support EPC RFPs and contract execution.
  • Management of outside consulting engineer to support high voltage related conceptual design, studies and specifications.
  • Perform owner's review of EPC contractor's technical deliverables related to substation and transmission lines including load flow, voltage drop, arc flash and integration of protective relay systems and controls.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and analyze options to optimize cost and schedule.
  • Ensure engineering work meets applicable codes, industry standards and safety practices.
  • Work with EPC partners and manage consultants for substation design/construction.
  • Work closely with Project Management and Construction Management to assure design is constructible and is fully integrated into the project schedule.


Required Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to clearly communicate ideas to non-engineers.
  • Ability to remain focused and reliable in completing tasks and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage technical projects, including interaction with outside vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license
  • Experience in calculations and analysis of substation related electrical studies including voltage drop, load flow, grounding, arc flash, and short circuit studies.
  • Knowledge of SKM or equivalent Software and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Prior experience in developing and reviewing technical specifications and design for power plants and substations including selection of power equipment (power transformers, breakers, protection relays, battery systems, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of NESC, NEC, NFPA, ANSI & IEEE codes and standards.


Educational Requirements:
  • 4-Year bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. PE registration preferred.


Preferred Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant technical experience with responsibility for High Voltage Engineering for renewable energy plant interconnecting substations and transmission lines involving medium and high voltage (34.5 kV to 500kV) equipment


Physical Demands:
  • Position will require sitting for long periods of time as well as occasionally lifting up to twenty-pound boxes.
