What We Offer
The MDI Instrumentation & Electrical Reliability Engineer is responsible to sustain and improve the functional capability of I&E assets over their life cycle at the most favorable economics.
Major Responsibilities
- Accountable to develop, implement and evergreen the reliability strategy for his/her area of responsibility & align the reliability targets with the business targets of the Business Unit
- Responsible for plant maintenance to ensure production output and maintenance cost targets are met & improved; responsible to develop maintenance budget in area of responsibility; accountable for maintenance budgets in their assigned cost centers.
- Responsible for ensuring shutdown and turn-around scope align with the asset management strategy for the unit and best-known engineering practices.
- Responsible for scope definition and accountable for technical acceptance of plant modifications, from the reliability perspective, which can include small projects and mid-size/large projects, as appropriate.
- Accountable to maintain and safeguard the as-built plant documentation standards in his/her area including critical equipment / instrument & safety PM/PdM compliance documentation, as well as control system configuration.
- Pursue troubleshooting, failure analysis, scoping of more complex problems and handoff to defect elimination. Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis on PCT failures.
- Accountable for Management of Change and the subsequent modifications to the assets. Contributes to HAZOP's and unit specific HSE issues. Lead CMFA's for unit of responsibility.
- Accountable for maintaining legal and corporate compliance of PCT installations within the BTN BU.
- Makes decisions independently, but within a well-defined area. Supervised by senior professional. Shows awareness of procedures and work processes.
What You Offer
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Chemical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering or related degree with 3+ years' experience OR;
- Master's in Chemical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering or related degree with 2+ years' experience OR;
- PhD in Chemical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering with 1+ years' experience
- The eligibility to apply for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within a reasonable timeframe
Preferred Qualifications
- Six-Sigma Green Belt Certification
- Developmental knowledge of the manufacture of Aromatic Isocyanates and related intermediates.
- Developing knowledge in work planning and management for reliability work involving toxic chemicals (i.e., Phosgene CO, Cl2, and NH3.)
- Awareness of phosgene safety concepts required.
Knowledge & Skills:
- General knowledge of the manufacture of Aromatic Isocyanates and related derivatives and intermediates.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the process control methodologies used for the manufacture of Aromatic Isocyanates and related derivatives and intermediates.
- General knowledge of Shipping and Logistic Functions.
- Proven knowledge of application and decision making in reliability procedures/work processes (i.e., planning, scheduling, execution).
- Comprehensive knowledge of reliability methods and techniques, and best practices (including but not limited to instrumentation, electrical power supply, electrical drives, communication systems within control systems including IT security, control rooms and related equipment, safety systems, control systems, manufacturing execution systems, process analyzer technology and advanced process control.)
- Demonstrated knowledge of reliability work processes to ensure license to operate as well as to improve reliability and FAM cost (i.e., PCT integrity, asset strategy management, failure mode effects analysis, defect elimination and continuous Improvement). Possesses comprehensive knowledge of techniques, methods, and best practices to support this work. - thermal radiography, application of proprietary diagnostic tools, motor integrity testing, asset management systems, controller performance management, autonomous maintenance, calibration and preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, application of engineering standards, etc.
- Comprehensive knowledge of procedures/work processes (i.e., process hazard analysis, pressure safety, management of change, pre-startup safety reviews).
- General knowledge of the effects of unit process conditions on PCT reliability - i.e., reliability operating parameters/ windows/conditions; process chemistry.
- Broad Knowledge of the capital process including but not limited to scoping, estimating, business case development, FEL 0, 1 + 2 with a comprehensive knowledge of techniques, methods, and best practices for the management of capital investments.
- Proven Knowledge of the concepts for maintaining process components such as but not limited instrumentation, electrical power supply, electrical drives, communication systems within control systems including IT security, control rooms and related equipment, safety systems, control systems, manufacturing execution systems, process analyzer technology and advanced process control and with greater area and with a comprehensive knowledge of related techniques, methods and best practices - for example troubleshooting/repair, selection of technology and/or materials of construction.
- Skilled in obtaining and analyzing data from tools and systems used in Covestro (i.e., SAP, Meridium, Documentum, PI, InTools, AMS, CPM, DeltaV)
- Knowledge of the financial concepts and tools used by Covestro e.g., budgeting, capital and expense investments, profitability analysis (i.e., discounted cash flow), creation and approval of work Orders and requisitions, engineering work requests.
- Responsible to develop maintenance budget in area of responsibility.
- Ability to ensure application and compliance with HSEQ policies and procedures while performing engineering activities.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively within the unit team and with BU site management.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead unit teams and be a key member of site and global teams.
