Job Summary

The Senior Manager - Engineering IDCS is responsible for the successful leadership and management of a team of configuration and automation engineers. The Senior Manager ensures all resources are properly trained, well utilized and are delivering high quality engagement that meet SHI's expectations. The role promotes the team's capabilities through collaborative activities and is responsible for the overall effectiveness of the team.

The Senior Manager will support IDCS's strategic direction and will create operational plans that align with growth objectives, expansion of services, and capabilities. This role requires a strategic leader with deep technical expertise in data center infrastructure, strong project management skills, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams.

This position reports to the Director of Quality Assurance and is expected to perform duties at the SHI Piscataway Integration Center.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:
  • Manage and mentor a team of System Engineers and Engineering Associates; providing clear direction and setting priorities. Foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Spearhead the hiring and development of top-tier engineering talent, promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mid-course mitigation strategies; ensuring targets are met while guaranteeing customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior management.
  • Manage customer escalations.
  • Maintain internal infrastructure, network, and automation environment including advanced debugging and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
  • Guide team on how to troubleshoot and improve the design of automation, information, and operational support systems.
  • Ensure adequate resources for Engineering team to complete team and Business Unit projects.
  • Implement and maintain quality control processes.
  • Establish staff performance objectives and development goals. Develop and track KPIs, ensuring team performance aligns with organizational goals, KPIs and SLAs.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Engage in strategic business discussions, contributing insights that shape company policies.
  • Provide technical leadership in the design and construction of data center infrastructure.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field (advanced degrees/certifications preferred).
  • 15+ years of experience in Integration Data Center Services or equivalent discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in management with responsibility for technical strategy and customer-facing activities.
  • 6+ years of experience leading cross-functional projects.
  • Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure (electrical, mechanical, network systems).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven success in managing high-performing technical teams and delivering complex IT projects.


Required Skills

  • Strong operational experience, including management of teams that configure hardware, software, and integration solutions.
  • Ability to understand technical explanations, as well as articulate, firmware upgrades, network settings, and custom settings as required by customers across multiple vendor hardware.
  • Understanding of datacenter automation tools, IPMI, python, javascript, PXE, etc.
  • Effective communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Presentation skills with a high degree of comfort with both large and small audiences.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning capabilities.
  • Proficiency in translating complex technical concepts into actionable business strategies.
  • Exceptional negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of developing and implementing operational plans.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching experience.
  • Ability to work under tight time constraints and meet strict deadlines.
  • Understanding of data center infrastructure build documentation.
  • Advanced knowledge of SHI Tools and applications as they relate to the IDCS Business Unit (e.g. Airtable, Microsoft Dynamics AX, Power BI).


Preferred Qualifications / Skills:
  • Advanced knowledge of SHI Tools and applications as they relate to the IDCS Business Unit
  • Experience in the Integration Data Center Services organization.


Unique Requirements

  • Position requires 10% travel.
  • Extended hours are required to complete some special projects.


Additional Information

  • The estimated annual pay range for this position is $90,000 - $180,000 which includes a base salary and bonus. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending.
