Traffic Design Engineer (5-10 years)

Garver is seeking a highly motivated Traffic Design Engineer in our Overland Park, KS office to add to our growing traffic and transportation planning team. The ideal candidate would have 5-10 years of related experience, a sharp technical background, and strong passion for the profession. The position will offer the candidate an opportunity to play a key role in designing exciting projects for our DOT and municipal clients across our client footprint.
Applicants must have excellent problem-solving skills with a commitment to playing a key role of this extremely technical, highly productive design team. This position will be supervised by a Senior Project Manager and offers outstanding growth opportunity and career advancement to the right individual.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Developing intersection improvements plans
- Preparing traffic signal plans,
- Preparing ITS plans
- Preparing signing plans and pavement marking plans
- Coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and communicating concepts to clients
Additional duties include:
- Assisting with project management to identify project scopes, fees, and monitoring project progress.
- Preparing project proposals and giving interviews for project pursuits
- Performing direct client marketing and developing relationships with existing clients within our service area
- Mentoring less experienced staff
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree for an ABET accredited engineering program
- 5 - 10 years of experience with traffic specific projects
- Proficient in Microstation
- Well organized with great attention to detail Excellent communication skills with a willingness to lead meetings and presentations
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) or have ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Working knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and FHWA Sign Book
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with OpenRoads, SignCAD, and AutoTurn
- Experience with fiber optic communication system architecture
- Experience with developing Systems Engineering and Concept of Operation reports
- Experience in marketing and managing local government projects
- Experience working with State Departments of Transportation and municipalities within the Garver footprint
