This position reports to

R&D Corporate Executive Engineer

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to successful project results in technology, software, product, and/or solution development, as well as associated Intellectual Property (IP). Each day, you will act as the first point of contact in Research and Development for specific product-related issues and maintenance. You will also showcase your expertise by identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative solutions.
The work model for the role is hybrid in Memphis, TN
You will be mainly accountable for:
* Define the progression of our Electrical & Software Technology Roadmap, ensuring technology supports our product evolution, or enters new product adjacencies.
* Maintain knowledge of new technologies, processes, controls, connectivity, and other cutting edge advancements across multiple industries that may improve ELIP's competitive advantage.
* Work with Product Management and Business Development to ensure R&D is focused on the highest value customer needs, driving new value creation.
* Learn to lead cross-functional Product Ideation sessions that draw out our diverse perspectives, using innovation frameworks that spur out-of-the-box concepts.
* Lead in developing proof of concept prototypes that verify the potential of new innovations.
* Assist in driving the Product Management team to convert new innovations into the established project gate process.
* Identify new suppliers providing technologies that are not currently offered by the Division (ELIP).
* Suggest acquisition targets that could broaden ELIP's market coverage or vertical integration.
* Work closely within the engineering department to improve and streamline the product development process for pre-Gate 0 activities.
* Mentor engineers across the ELIP organization to foster open innovative thinking.

Qualifications for the role
  • A Master's Degree from an accredited institution in an engineering function, mathematics, or science discipline, or an MBA combined with an engineering bachelor's degree.
  • At least years 8 years of product experience demonstrating innovative thinking.
  • A curious nature to discover solutions for unmet customer needs, proposing hypothetical solutions and driving a proof of concept.
  • Comfortable working with uncertain "grey areas" to successfully identify new solutions.
  • Aptitude in drawing out diverse perspectives by facilitating group ideation, using inquisitive communication and coaching skills.
  • Understanding of business case analysis, including the relationship between market value, cost, sales volume, and investment.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property (IP) processes, IP development, and IP acquisitions for product value.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
