About the Team
The well experienced Operations team at ZF Vernon Hills is specialized for the requirements of the Original Equipment Manufacturer Service (OES) and the Independent Aftermarket (IAM). The Lead EHS Specialist works closely with remanufacturing operations, the Distribution Center, Quality Assurance, Engineering, the regional Environmental and Health Systems Team and others to improve overall safety and to achieve environmental targets. A key to success for this role, besides being an effective communicator, is being collaborative with all teams and to foster a safety oriented culture
What you can look forward to as a Lead EHS Specialist
- Develops, implement, and maintains the Safety Program, safety files, procedures, programs, and records in compliance with regulatory agencies requirements. Compiles and submits reports to Federal and State regulatory agencies to maintain safety compliance.
- Collects, analyzes and maintains data essential for effective safety and environmental programs, including OSHA and EPA filings, as well as other reports for outside agencies, as may be required. Leads site sustainability efforts for energy & water conservation, recycling initiatives and reporting.
- Administers the workers compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time.
- Performs or assists with accident investigations as needed. Ensures that processes take necessary corrective action to prevent future incidents. Communicates recommendations to all concerned parties promptly.
- Designs, develops and conducts safety training programs. Conducts program assessments to identify department program deficiencies. Coordinates and conducts work area assessment, surveys, and program evaluations to determine the presence of hazardous conditions, such as noise exposure, ergonomics, chemical exposure, indoor air quality, light levels, confined space, and ventilation.
- Leads departments with specific training needs by locating and scheduling outside training activities. Required to serve on various employee committees.
- Designated Employer Representative for the implementation and management of the company's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program. Administers the random and post accident testing program. Maintains accurate records in the administration of these programs and maintains computer database for these policies.
- Serves as site security coordinator for physical security risks including access control, security cameras, violence control procedures and security audits.
- Administers and provides technical advice on the medical surveillance program to include required vaccinations and medical testing of employees as may be regulated by OSHA and other federal and state laws.
- Bachelor's of Science Degree preferred in Safety, Environmental Management or related field and 8+ years of related experience, OR equivalent experience in progressively responsible safety position within manufacturing environment.
- Proven knowledge of OSHA Regulations and knowledge of federal, state and local environmental, health, and safety laws.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer literacy
- Experience with EPA and OSHA compliance.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Knowledge of safety statistical measurement methodology.
- Experience with process/equipment hazard risk-analysis tools preferred.
- Experience with chemical processes involving high-hazard content areas preferred.
