Pediatric Sleep/Pulmonology & services provided:
The section of Pediatric Pulmonology at Brenner Childrens Hospital sees a diverse population with high acuity, including:
- patients with BPD
- patients requiring chronic ventilation or non-invasive ventilation
- neuromuscular respiratory weakness
- asthma
- cystic fibrosis
- sleep disorders
- interstitial lung disease
- sickle cell lung disease
Pediatric Sleep:
- We currently have 3 sleep providers in our sleep clinic including one pediatric psychiatrist. We have 5 sleep center locations; Winston-Salem (4 beds), Lexington Adult (4 Beds), Lexington/Brenner Childrens (3 beds), High Point (4 beds), and Wilkes (2 Beds), totaling 17 beds.
- There is also a portable unit located on the main campus in Winston-Salem for pediatric inpatients.
- The sites operate with a 2:1 patient to tech ratio in the adult labs. Depending on the patient's age and severity, the pediatric staffing ratio may vary from 1:1 to 2:1.
- We are in the process of transitioning to Compumedics and adding Somnoware.
Pediatric Pulmonary:
- Our team includes: 5 pediatric pulmonologists, a dedicated CF physician, 1 inpatient/outpatient PNP
- We are an accredited CF center and a member of the TDN with a fully staffed CF team (providers, nurse coordinator, psychologist, RT, social worker, dietician and pharmacist).
- We run multidisciplinary clinics for patients with CF, ventilator-dependence, neuromuscular diseases, Sickle Cell Disease, and Pediatric Sleep.
- We perform both inpatient and outpatient bronchoscopy with on-call bronchoscopy technicians (RTs) and have full lung function testing capabilities.
- We work in a multidisciplinary fashion with our adult pulmonary colleagues, Pediatric ENT section, the NICU, PICU, our pediatric surgeons and pediatric subspecialists.
- Pediatric Pulmonology has satellite clinics located in Clemmons and Hickory, NC.
Brenner Childrens Hospital:
Brenner Childrens Hospital is the focal point for pediatric healthcare at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. The hospital includes 175 inpatient beds, 11 PICU beds, 79 NICU beds, and admits 4,500 children annually. In addition, more than 50,000 pediatric subspecialty visits occur at our outpatient clinics and over 36,000 children visit the emergency room each year. Brenner Childrens became the first Level I pediatric trauma center in the state in 2011 and has maintained its verification ever since. Currently it is the only Level I pediatric trauma center in the region and one of only three in North Carolina. The hospital has also been recently verified by the ACS as a Level I Childrens Surgery Center, one of only 28 in the entire country, including 7 OR suites. Brenner Children's Hospital is staffed by 94 pediatric faculty including over 50 of the Best Doctors in America that have expertise in the full range of pediatric care. Brenner also has consistently been ranked among the nations top pediatric hospitals by U.S. News & World Report.

Wake Forest School of Medicine, the academic core of Atrium Health Enterprise, is the medical education and research component of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.
