The Core Services team at Apple Services Engineering (ASE) is seeking an engineering manager to lead a team that builds scalable and creative features that delight hundreds of millions of customers around the world on App Store, Apple Arcade, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Books, Podcasts, MusicKit, iTunes etc. across multiple platforms on iOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS.DescriptionCome join the ASE Core Services team! Together, we will work on the online content system that provides catalog metadata and editorial data to power all of our services, and the indexing processes that models entities into the online content system. You will find innovative ways to weave together various technologies to push the boundaries of the CAP theorem and think about performance in terms of median, 95th, and 99th percentile. You will work cross-functionally to understand what content metadata is needed to power upcoming feature and then model the entities into our online content system. We will also work on a data transformation platform running on Spark to provide our catalog metadata to teams within Apple like Shazam and Siri and to partners outside of Apple to improve our services on 3rd party platforms. You will work with various Big Data technologies to optimally deliver millions of updates to hundreds of consumers in an efficient and timely manner. Working with 3rd party partners, you will understand their requirements and propose solutions to meet their needs. As a team leader, you will build a vision and roadmap for the team, work with like-minded experts to develop solutions and architectures, and implement project plans to achieve these objectives.Minimum QualificationsExperience leading and growing a team, including hiring and performance management.Can provide hands-on technical leadership, including mentoring, guiding, and motivating the engineers.Experience leading complex engineering projects from inception to production.Excellent communication skills. Can effectively communicate complex ideas and make compelling arguments.Effectively collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, collaborators, partners, etc.Enjoys deep technical and product discussions. Has attention to detail and can context switch across multiple projects.Can see the big picture, set a vision, and grow the team and platform in accordance to that vision.Hands-on experience working on scalable web services and features that span multi-functional teams.Strong analysis skills coupled with a deep understanding of data structures and algorithms.Experience with Big Data technologies like Spark and Hadoop ecosystem.Experience with NoSQL data stores like Solr, Elastic Search, Redis, Memcached, Cassandra, Voldemort, etc.Preferred QualificationsExperience with Java. Any other JVM or functional languages like Clojure is a plus.BS or MS in Computer Science, plus 10 years minimum experience in related field required.Pay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,000 and $313,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
