Job Description
The Electron Microscopy Technologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The EM tech is primarily responsible for the collection and adequacy assessment of tissue for Electron Microscopy evaluation, and for the fixation, processing, sectioning, staining, and performance of EM. The acquisition of photographic images and the management of tissue transportation for other lab testing areas are also critical.

Job Description
The Electron Microscopy Technologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The EM tech is primarily responsible for the collection and adequacy assessment of tissue for Electron Microscopy evaluation, and for the fixation, processing, sectioning, staining, and performance of EM. The acquisition of photographic images and the management of tissue transportation for other lab testing areas are also critical.
Responsibilities:
- Attend tissue collection (primarily renal biopsies) procedures and perform adequacy assessment of the collected tissue. Using a dissecting microscope, a gross analysis of the tissue is performed and adequacy is communicated to the surgeon or fellow.
- Proper handling of the tissue and transport to other areas of Pathology for testing is managed by the EM tech.
- Fixation, processing, sectioning, staining, mounting of specimens for analysis in the Electron Microscope
- Examination of tissue in the EM and subsequent acquisition of photographic images
- Performs and documents quality assurance and maintains records as required by the laboratory and accrediting agencies (CAP, JCAHO, etc)
- Operates and maintains equipment and service records.
- Participates in evaluating new equipment
Required:
- B.S. degree in Biological Sciences with at least one course in electron microscopy
- HT (ASCP)
- Experience and coursework in histological techniques
