Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned) Ensures that all Day-Ahead/Real-Time commercial power operations take place in a correct and timely manner within regard to ISO/RTO, transmission companies, NERC scheduling and department deadlines: including maintaining/updating spreadsheets, communicating with traders and schedulers, interacting with the ISO/RTOs for Bid/Offer submission of resources and outage management. Utilize fundamental data including supply/demand, renewable forecasts, weather, and market prices for dispatch model and determine optimal dispatch for Calpine’s Power assets. Forecast natural gas burns for gas/power traders and gas schedulers to make purchase/sale decisions. Execute transmission deal purchase or sale to support full monetization of power assets. Create and distribute daily/monthly reports to provide positions and support profit and loss reporting. Track and schedule available MW and upcoming outages for generation assets across the region. Interface with Gas and Power traders daily, communicating status updates on power assets and any changes impacting daily positions and strategies. Stays up to date on related ISO/RTO market rules, procedures and manuals. Coordinates Real & Reactive Power Capability Testing which includes scheduling testing, internal review of data and submission of results to ISO/RTO. Collects, organizes sand submits information from various contributors to ISOs and/or Market Monitors related to Routine or Ad-Hoc Data Requests, Surveys and Unit Specific Parameters and Characteristics. Hosts Daily and Monthly, Seasonal or Ad-Hoc Meetings with Plant Power Operations and Commercial Desk to communicate market conditions and confirm current and short-term operational capability of the assets. Understands and facilitates execution of responsibilities of Commercial Desk related to any Power Purchasing Agreements (PPA). Perform data reconciliation activities with accounting team. May assist with strategies with cash power traders. May require deploying to alternate work site as part of Calpine’s Business Continuity Plan. Junior Generation Coordinator may perform some of the duties at Senior level, coordinating and resolving questions between ISO and Calpine power operation. Job Criteria Job Scope & Technical Excellence Solid and working knowledge in value optimization for power generation assets. Some, working knowledge of market tariffs (PJM preferred), Open Access Transmission Tariffs (OATTs), and Day Ahead/Real Time Commercial Operations is preferred but not required. Expected to perform in fully functioning capacity, equivalent to a journey level contributor within a year of starting. Decision Making & Self-management Uses independent judgment within defined policies and practices. Interprets guidelines, select methods, techniques and analytical approach. Little instruction on day-to-day work and general instructions on new assignments. May assist on project for an ongoing process or short-term project within own department. With assistance solves operational problems and associated technical issues. Works on problems of moderate complexity. Make decision regarding own work, often in ambiguous situations and be able to make recommendation and generalization on operation processes. Communication and Influence Information sharing – gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instruction and reporting results. Proactive coordination and alignment across his/her own department, Calpine internal functional groups, and external balancing authorities/ISO/counterparties under guidance of Senior Generation Coordinator Job Requirements Bachelor’s Degree required; preferably in Business, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Accounting, Economics or equivalent. Level: typically requires 1-3 experience. Strong mathematical and organizational skills and intermediate to advanced Excel/spreadsheet/database skills.
