Job Description

We are looking for an accomplished Senior Ecologist for our growing practice in Terracon's Gulf Coast Region! This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual with environmental planning experience to grow, expand, and manage the services already offered by Terracon.

General Responsibilities:

As a Senior Ecologist, you'll oversee projects within the Environmental Planning ecology group, ensuring timely and compliant execution per client and company standards. This role involves managing project timelines, client requirements, and adherence to policies.

You will handle proposal preparation and cost estimates, ensuring accurate service scoping, manpower allocation, and pricing for profitability. Additionally, you'll assist the Managers in the region with staff training, safety oversight, quality control, and adherence to policies, ensuring smooth daily operations.

Your role will also include supervising ecological field surveys, such as wetland delineations and species assessments. You'll manage ecological projects, including fieldwork, risk evaluation, and regulatory compliance. You will also engage in business development to secure and manage new projects while maintaining client relationships.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects, including pre-task planning.
  • Project Management: Oversee and manage projects from a senior level, including training and mentoring team members. Ensure quality standards and success in project revenue growth, billing, and profitability.
  • Technical Leadership: Implement technical requirements for client projects by directing and supervising field staff. Develop expertise in specific environmental/technical areas.
  • Regulatory and Permitting: Prepare and review federal and state waters permitting applications, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Client and Team Interaction: Participate in meetings and communications with clients and serve as an interdisciplinary team member. Develop and review proposals.
  • Quality and Risk Management: Promote continuous quality improvement on projects, monitor quality standards, and be aware of project-related risks.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Forestry, or related discipline.
  • 8 or more years of experience in the practice.
  • Ability to travel out of town between 10% and 20% of the normal work week.
  • Possess strong writing skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work on a team and build networks across the division and company
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Preferred Certification:
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification preferred.
