The Opportunity:
Our National Power team is seeking an experienced engineer to serve as the National Engineering Manager. WSP services in the Power market are in growing demand and the leadership team is looking to add this new senior leadership position to help support our project delivery teams.
Reporting to the National Project Delivery Office Director and collaborating closely with our engineering Discipline Managers, the National Engineering Manager will ensure the application of best engineering practices (such as quality, safety, efficiency, reliability, and sustainability) across all projects and teams, with specific oversight across our Hydropower & Dams, Renewables, and Transmission & Distribution market.
The WSP Power team in Canada currently consists of over 340 highly skilled professionals working on various projects (varying from small to major) across Canada and internationally. Each market has engineering teams specializing in Civil, Hydrotechnical, Geotechnical, Structural, Electrical, and Mechanical disciplines.
The ideal candidate will have extensive technical knowledge and expertise in multidisciplinary technical project delivery. They should be passionate about engineering, possess proven leadership skills, and be capable of making high-impact decisions on significant engineering problems while exercising discretion and sound judgment. Additionally, the candidate should be highly self-motivated and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
This position is open for our Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto, or Calgary offices, with other locations considered based on the candidate's qualifications.

What you can expect to do here:
- Project Delivery
- Provide leadership, expertise, and oversight to guide engineering teams in producing high-quality technical and professional deliverables on projects and proposals across all Power market.
- Ensure that engineering practices across Hydropower & Dams, Renewables, and Transmission & Distribution sectors are standardized and aligned with industry best practices.
- Support with regulatory compliance by ensuring that all engineering activities adhere to relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Conduct project audits to identify, correct, and/or improve technical execution.
- Periodically monitor the technical execution of critical projects.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including clients and regulatory bodies, to ensure alignment on technical strategies and project execution.
- Participate directly in the design or technical coordination of key projects.
- Support with conducting risk assessments and mitigation plans.
- Lead management efforts by addressing and resolving important technical challenges that may arise during project execution.
- Team Management Support & Technical Leadership
- Promote best engineering practices within our engineering teams and inspire a culture of being responsive, reliable, and collaborative team players.
- Act as a mentor and coach for delivering the highest levels of quality in technical performance by leading initiatives that drive innovative thinking and the application of state-of-the-art tools.
- Encourage, support, and promote technical and professional development.
- Assist, as required, Discipline Managers with team management, including training, hiring, goal setting, and performance reviews.
- Assist with short-, medium-, and long-term project staffing requirements.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Regularly evaluate the need to implement new tools, standards, and processes to optimize technical project delivery and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Drive sustainability initiatives across all sectors, promoting environmentally responsible practices in project delivery.
- Drive innovation by staying current with the latest engineering trends and technologies.
- Support the technical quality audit process (including lessons learned sessions) and address outcomes related to improvement opportunities, non-conformities, or lessons learned, with reports to WSP executive management.
- Actively participate in technical associations, networks, and committees.
- Business & Strategic Support
- Assist Power leadership and business development teams in defining strategies to meet medium- and long-term objectives.
- Define winning strategies for large pursuits.
- Support strategic initiatives such as partnership agreements with other consultants.
- Identify and maintain relationships with experts from other WSP teams who could support Power projects (such as project specific Expert Committees).
- Collaborate with Power Leadership to strategically drive the business and suggest improvements for project performance.
What you'll bring to WSP:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada.
- Must have extensive experience in engineering, with a minimum of 15 years, including experience across Hydropower & Dams, Renewables, and/or Transmission & Distribution sectors.
- Must have experience in engineering consulting environment.
- Must be fluently bilingual (English, French).
- Strong leadership capability as evidenced by success in collaborative work environments.
- Experience in executing multi-discipline engineering work on medium and large-scale complex projects across conceptual, pre-feasibility, feasibility, basic and detailed engineering, including field engineering and commissioning.
- Knowledge of CADD, 3D software tools and BIM model output.
- Competent in the use of project management software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Understanding of how various discipline engineering activities integrate into a complete project.
- Ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities.
- Prior experience managing multidisciplinary engineering groups is preferred.
- Leadership and coaching skills in the development, training, and mentoring of team members and support staff.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals; ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
- Positive and driven attitude.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
