Bloomberg's Engineering AI department has 300+ AI practitioners building highly sought after products and features that often require novel innovations. We are investing in AI to build better search, discovery, and workflow solutions using technologies such as transformers, gradient boosted decision trees, large language models, and dense vector databases. We are expanding our group and seeking highly skilled individuals who will be responsible for contributing to the team (or teams) of Machine Learning (ML) and Software Engineers that are bringing innovative solutions to AI-driven customer-facing products.

We build AI systems to help process and organize the ever-increasing volume of structured and unstructured information needed to make informed decisions. Our use of AI uncovers signals, helps us produce analytics about financial instruments in all asset classes, and delivers clarity when our clients need it most.
As a Senior AI Safety Specialist, you will develop risk detection and mitigation systems using a wide range of technologies including BloombergGPT and other LLMs. You will have access to vast amounts of high quality data for training and evaluation, and the support of dedicated data, risk, and policy experts with decades of experience. You will be expected to lead the way in characterizing, assessing, and mitigating novel GenAI risks, especially in the financial services domain, and to evangelize best practices and technologies throughout the company.

- Collaborate with teams across the company to ensure best practices around GenAI risks.
- Identify novel GenAI risks and develop new models and mitigation strategies to address them.
- Stay current with the latest research in AI Safety and Alignment and incorporate new findings into our models and methodologies
- Evangelize AI Safety best practices to application teams across Bloomberg, and help them to develop solutions.
We are looking for AI Safety Engineers with the following experience:
- A Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, similar field of study or equivalent work experience.
- Relevant work experience in AI Safety, AI Alignment, or AI Cybersecurity (5+ years after Masters or 2+ years after Ph.D.)
- An understanding of Computer Science fundamentals such as data structures and algorithms.
