Introduction

The Department of Safety and Professional Services mission is to promote economic growth and stability while protecting the citizens of Wisconsin as designated by statute. DSPS and related professional boards protect the citizens of Wisconsin by ensuring the safe and competent practice of licensed professionals; performing inspections of commercial buildings, amusement rides, boilers, elevators, pressurized gas systems, and electrical systems; and performing plan reviews of commercial building, plumbing, fire suppression, elevators, boilers, and private onsite wastewater treatments systems.

What We Are Looking For: A boiler, refrigeration and gas system expert (Consultant Refrigeration System Senior) to provide consultation, inspections, and plan review in the Division of Industry Services.

Where We Are Located: This position may be located at any one of our offices in Madison, Waukesha, Green Bay, La Crosse, or working remotely out of their home location with different hybrid, remote, or in person work schedule requirements based on where the selected hire is located. All employees working a hybrid or remote work schedule are still expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin and be able to report to the office for training, meetings, and/or operational needs. Position Summary

The Boiler, Refrigeration and Gas System Consultant (Consultant Refrigeration System Sr) position is responsible for protecting the public health, safety, and environment of Wisconsin through the programs that include, compressed and pressurized fluid systems: boilers, pressure vessels, conventional and nuclear power plant components, refrigeration systems, anhydrous ammonia systems (NH3), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied hydrogen (LH2) and structural welding in commercial buildings. This position assigns responsibilities and monitors the listed mechanical systems programs above for consistent application of relevant engineering principles, techniques, practices, and basic understanding of administrative codes for constructed environments and mechanical equipment.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range (14-13) with an annual salary of $79,040-$103,105.60, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have training or experience with all the following:

  • Training or experience with the mechanical concepts related to their practical application in boiler, refrigeration, and/or gas installations.
  • Training or experience operating, maintaining, and/or inspecting any of the following equipment: boilers (heating, miniature, electric, power), unfired pressure vessels, mechanical refrigeration systems, bulk gas systems (LPG, LNG, HN3, H2).
  • Training or experience with Wisconsin administrative codes, National Boiler Inspection Code (NBIC), The National Fire Protection Association Code (NFPA) or American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code (ASME).


Well qualified applicants will have the above training or experience AND hold a National Board Commission in boiler and pressure vessel inspections. If you do not currently hold this credential, it will be expected you obtain it with in 24 months of hire.
