Assistant/Associate/Professor of Sports Medicine

The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine and The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking a board-certified physician with sports medicine training to join the full-time faculty.  This appointment at the University of Vermont will be at the Assistant/Associate/Professor level (1.0 FTE) in the Clinical Scholar Pathway commensurate with experience.

The selected candidate will join a busy and collegial program in an academic Family Medicine department that supports the University of Vermont Family Medicine Residency Program and medical students from the Larner College of Medicine. The position requires a clinical focus in sports medicine and clinical effort is entirely sports medicine. Advanced certification in sports medicine is required (sports medicine fellowship). Additional skills in musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided sports medicine procedures are desired. The position includes .75 FTE sports medicine care embedded in our primary care medical homes (PCMH) at our Family Medicine- Milton (our Primary Family Medicine Residency clinic) and Family Medicine- South Burlington clinics. In addition, .125 FTE sports medicine clinical care will be embedded in the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Vermont Tilley Drive Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Center for non-surgical sports medicine outpatient care. Finally. .125 FTE will be non-clinical effort dedicated to the curricular head of musculoskeletal medicine for our robust, full scope Family Medicine residency training program. The position includes opportunities for sidelines sports coverage included in the .125 non-clinical FTE funding related to residency education and training in musculoskeletal medicine. Experience in medical education is desired.  We seek a rich, diverse workforce and encourage everyone to explore our department and state.

Qualifications:

  • Board certification as an MD or DO.
  • Additional board certification or fellowship training in Sports Medicine.
  • Preferred background in ultrasound, diagnostics/therapeutics, & injections.
  • Ability to obtain valid and unrestricted medical license in Vermont.
  • Expertise in diagnosing and managing sports-related injuries and exercise-related health concerns.
  • Expertise in diagnosing and managing acute and chronic non-surgical orthopedic injuries and musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Strong clinical acumen and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Commitment to delivering patient-centered care.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in primary care medical home and orthopedic settings.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to balance patient-facing clinical days and administrative duties.

 

Priority will be given to applicants who have experience providing family medicine-sports medicine clinical services in an academic setting. Our sports medicine faculty participates with hands-on sports medicine clinical teaching in our family medicine residency education program, serves as curricular head for musculoskeletal medicine for our Family Medicine Residency, and supports our medical student educational programs including our third-year clerkship musculoskeletal workshops. Our 6:6:6 residency program is fully accredited by the ACGME, and we are national leaders in full scope Family Medicine training. Our residency program combines the best of a University-Based training program at a tertiary care Medical Center based in Burlington, VT, and the rural educational opportunities in our state of Vermont.  Our program supports academic and professional growth while affording excellent quality of life.
