Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a scientist/environmental engineer/safety professional to deliver Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) and sustainability solutions to commercial, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, power, television/film and media, transportation (including rail) and other industrial clients. The position includes completion of EHS projects through each stage of our client's facility life cycle - including business and property acquisition due diligence, facility operational compliance, auditing, environmental assessment/evaluation, and facility decommissioning and divestiture. The position may also involve supporting Climate Solutions practice measuring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, developing emissions reductions strategies, and supporting clients in executing those strategies (e.g., energy efficiency, renewable energy, and carbon credits) and our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practice measuring the impact of a company based on its approach to sustainability and ethical issues. Our ESG Advisory Practices helps our clients improve their ESG performance through the implementation of EHS auditing programs, carbon emissions reductions, renewable energy, water stewardship, waste minimization, and supply chain social responsibility assessments.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • With support from various Subject Matter Experts and a Stantec Project Manager, oversee the delivery of EHS projects to our clients. Projects may include:
    • EHS due diligence, Phase I ESAs, and environmental assessment, in support of business and property acquisitions.
    • Environmental assessments and studies, including environmental remediation and restoration.
    • EHS regulatory compliance assessments and audits at client facilities and where clients perform field activities for industrial and commercial clients.
    • On-site EHS support at client facilities including completion of routine inspections, development of EHS programs, and correction of deficiencies in accordance with OSHA, DOT, federal, municipal, and/or state environmental regulations.
    • Technical consulting for clients on regulatory compliance matters including permit management, routine regulatory reporting (i.e., air, hazardous waste [RCRA and non-RCRA], EPCRA, etc.), industrial hygiene, and industrial safety.
    • Storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPs) and Spill Prevention and Control Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans.
    • EHS support during facility decommissioning, decontamination, and divestiture.

  • Support and develop business relationships with a focus on clients in the Gulf Region (Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma).   • Lead the response to requests for proposals generated through the candidate's business relationships and as identified by Stantec Account and Client Managers.
  • Develop and coordinate a team of EHS consulting professionals.
  • Support and manage multiple clients and assume responsibility for the relationship and Stantec deliverables.
  • Project management responsibilities may include developing proposals; managing project budgets and schedules; coordinating with clients, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and internal project staff; and performing and overseeing project technical work.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • A qualified candidate will have direct relevant experience supporting or leading all aspects of EHS, including but not limited to: due diligence, auditing, and compliance assurance; EHS procedures development and training; air quality, wastewater, chemical management, bulk liquid storage, and waste handling; industrial hygiene, environmental assessment, and industrial safety compliance.
  • Travel may be required for the purpose of conducting EHS assessments, on-site EHS support, or for off-site meetings with clients and/or regulatory agencies.
  • Practical ability to analyze technical data, perform research, demonstrate technical knowledge, and problem solve.
  • Strong organizational and communications skills (able to communicate solutions in writing, verbally and graphically).
  • Straightforward, hard (but smart) working, client-dedicated, and practical approach.
  • Ability to conduct EHS audits to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour general industry and/or 10-hour construction safety training recommended.
  • Professional licensure a benefit (i.e., Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer (CESCO), and or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)).
  • Prior to and/or during employment, this position may require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor's of Science in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and build business relationships.
  • Capable of promoting Stantec and discussing our service offerings with a wide range of clients and/or prospective clients.
  • Experience in manufacturing, transportation, oil and gas, and industrial sector projects.
  • Experience with hazardous materials, such as asbestos, PCBs, and lead-based paint.
  • Field experience is mandatory, with preference for industrial EHS compliance experience and environmental assessment implementation and oversight.
  • Experience with sustainability is a benefit, including energy efficiency in industrial processes, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, delivering water reuse and recycling solutions, and supporting sustainable supply chain capacity building is helpful, as well as exposure to facility closure, site investigation and land remediation services.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
