Substack is building a new economic engine for culture, with more than 3 million paid subscriptions to writers, podcasters, and video-makers on the platform.
As Product Communications Manager, you will help position and grow products used by thousands of publishers and millions of readers. You will be responsible for shaping and influencing product positioning for target audiences, driving go-to-market efforts that drive awareness and adoption, and working cross functionally with partners throughout the company. This position will report directly to the Head of Communications, and you'll work closely with the Editorial and Product teams.
Substack's compensation package includes a market-competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles, and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation salary range for this role is $90,000-$100,000. Multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, determine final offer amounts and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Core responsibilities:
- Work cross-functionally to influence and shape product positioning and narratives for target audiences in close collaboration with product, partnerships, and editorial.
- Develop and execute on go-to-market strategies for product launches that build on Substack's core narratives.
- Own and update the language for Substack surfaces to align with new product launches and positioning, including the Substack app and Substack.com.
- Partner with Substack's PR agency on press briefings, media tours and events, and create press materials including blog posts, media pitches, FAQs and fact sheets.
- Maintain the product roadmap in partnership with the product team, strategically influencing announcement timelines across owned and earned channels to maximize impact and align with the broader communications landscape.
- Collaborate with product spokespeople to ensure consistent and compelling messaging that aligns with the overall product and communication strategy.
- Partner with publishers and creators to enhance product messaging and engagement.
- Collaborate with internal partners to ensure Substack employees have the product information and context they need to do their job.
About You (Minimum Requirements):
- 2-4+ years of experience in PR/Communications
- A track record of launching products to tech, finance and business media, and building close relationships with press
- Product PR experience such as developing campaigns, launching new products and services, managing product reviews, and building media strategies
- Willing to collaborate with any writer or creator on the platform regardless of their views
- Ambitious self-starter, open-minded, with a high sense of initiative.
- An excellent communicator, able to foster understanding and teamwork
- Located in the Bay Area (preferred)
