We are seeking a Process Controls Engineer in our St Louis, MO Office

The Process Controls Engineer will be responsible for the design, engineering and development of controls systems utilized in the membrane production process. Candidate will design and specify control system architecture requirements including PLC/controller, Network, Power distribution, Motor control, IOs, and instrumentation devices.

Candidate needs to collaborate and work with cross functional team to ensure the control system meets the functional and standards requirements. The Engineer will develop and prepare documentation for control system IO, Point to Point and field requirements, electrical panel drawings and BOMs and sensor connection details. They will be a leader when it comes to control system design, control panel engineering, PLC, HMI, and robot programming.

In addition, the position will be required to engage external partners to accelerate adoption and deployment of new technology and provide specific recommendations for solutions for safety, quality, cost reduction, capacity, and capability improvements to include in business unit strategic and annual plans.

This position is accountable for the following end results:
  • Provide full life cycle support of control systems in our manufacturing area, including operations requirements, programming support, commissioning, and ongoing hardware and software maintenance. This includes the design, program, document, test, and validate control systems. Will perform in-house startup, commissioning, validation, support, and training.
  • Provide hardware and integration support for Ethernet based control systems in the plant IT environment.
  • Work with maintenance to develop data driven reliability improvement opportunities, as well as troubleshoot system hardware, resolve software malfunctions, and assist in system improvements and software upgrades.
  • Drives Operational Excellence within the manufacturing organization.
  • Implement improvements in systems capabilities that will increase the ability to meet internal requirements, including safe and reliable operations, and improve business competitiveness, using Six Sigma methodology as applicable.
  • Be a principal leader in process sustainability working with Operations and other support teams to reduce scrap and waste, target inefficiencies with improvements, and improve production efforts with process upgrades.
  • Provide support for all integration equipment and services, as well as assisting with development of new technology, or breakthroughs, on existing equipment.
  • Support project management for design, budget, contractor selection, mechanical & electrical construction, equipment installation, commissioning & qualification of new gas and chemical systems. This will include process and equipment validation of new equipment/processes.
  • Support development efforts as a resource knowledgeable in BOM and part details and general manufacturing processes.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent experience, preferably Electrical Engineering or automation, with at least 5 years of experience working in manufacturing facilities.
    • Knowledge of Control Circuit Theory and Design as well as Instrumentation Signals Used in Controls Applications.
    • Heavy motion controls and Servo Controls experience - Yaskawa Servos.
    • PLC programming, including creating from scratch such as Emerson PACSystems PLC family most helpful. Other brands (Legacy GE/Emerson, Siemens, Omron, Modicon, etc.) helpful. Safety programming in the PLC is a plus.
  • HMI/OIT programming such as Wonderware ArchestrA/System Platform/InTouch or Inductive Automation's Ignition.
  • In-house IO and panel testing, set-up, troubleshooting, and drawings. This includes IO check-out and motor direction testing (and reversal). VFD Setup and communications (Yaskawa, ABB, Mitsubishi, etc.) Emphasis on ABB.
  • Ability to read and mark-up electrical panel and network drawings and the ability to Update/Create Electrical Drawings. PLC-PLC, PLC-IO, PLC-VFD, and other communications. Panel and wiring troubleshooting skills are a plus.
  • Experience working in and supporting Manufacturing Facilities on day-to-day basis. This will include working in a collaborative environment across departments and communicating results to leadership and management.
  • Has exceptional project management skills in managing project timelines, interaction with machine builders, contractors, and implementation of chemical equipment into the plant. Experience with the design and implementation of various customized high speed automated systems, especially related to manufacturing and assembly of.
  • Superb communication and organizational skills and must be detail oriented, show initiative, and work in a fast-paced environment. This individual must be capable of working in a team environment with shared responsibilities.
  • Candidates should also possess demonstrated troubleshooting skills, a logical and systematic approach to problem-solving, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
