About You

As the Safety & Security Consultant for the TASB Risk Management Services, you will be responsible for developing and implementing education and training programs to provide awareness of school specific best practices in the areas of school safety, security, school-based law enforcement, and emergency management. This a hybrid role located in the Austin-metro area.

A Typical Day
  • Develop, deliver, and maintain quality training, resources and other materials that may include articles, job aids, checklists, slide decks, on-demand content, best practices, and guidance on school safety, security, school-based law enforcement, and emergency management topics and other education-related issues.
  • Conduct research to develop educational presentations, articles, FAQs, tip sheets, and other content and resources on school safety, security, law enforcement and emergency management topics.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in statutory and legal environments affecting members by creating appropriate communications.
  • Work collaboratively with claims managers, risk management marketing consultants, risk solutions consultants, and other TASB staff to make sure members' needs, including coverage questions and issues, are promptly addressed.
  • Understand and educate members on the intersection of safety & security and Fund coverage offerings Fund (Workers' Compensation, Liability, Violent Acts).

How You'll Make an Impact
  • Support the critical work of Texas public education by ensuring Fund members have the safety & security resources and best practices they need to better serve their school districts and communities.
  • Establish and/or maintain partnerships with other TASB service areas, outside agencies organizations (Texas School Safety Center, Texas Education Agency, etc.) Associations (Texas School District policy Chief Association), and Education Service Centers (ESCs) to assist members safety, security, and emergency needs.
  • Identify resources, including vendors in delivering member services.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage relationships with Fund service providers delivering incident response and related services and resources to members.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Skills For Success

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor degree Criminal Justice, law enforcement, risk management, business administration, communication, education, or a related field.
  • 5 years' professional experience in a related role such as emergency management, law enforcement, environmental health & safety, business continuity, or risk management.
  • Valid Texas driver's license required.
  • Experience working with schools, law enforcement, or other public entities, with a preference working in a K-12 environment.
  • Experience working with and managing third-party vendors desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and experience addressing issues and implementing best practices in school-based law enforcement (Texas Education Code, Texas Commission on Law Enforcement), safety, and security.
  • Understanding of federal (National Incident Management System) and state (Texas Education Agency, Texas School Safety Center) regulations and resources regarding safety, security, and emergency management; as well as other related organizations such as ALERRT, I Love You Guys Foundation, etc.
  • Ability to research issues, synthesize information, and provide clear guidance.
  • Good writer with the ability to distill complex technical information into content that can be easily consumed by a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent oral communication skills, including public speaking in person & virtually.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with members, ESCs, state agencies and related organizations.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to maintain designated campus visitor clearance.
