Deputy Telecommunication Engineering Leader

The Deputy Telecommunication Engineering Leader is responsible for supporting the Telecommunication Engineering Leader in the management, design, implementation, and maintenance of telecommunication systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of telecommunication networks while constantly innovating and improving the existing infrastructure.
Involves the design, coordination, and specifying of telecommunication distribution systems and infrastructure for medium to large projects. The engineer coordinates and designs pathways and cabling for inside and outside plant infrastructure, produces floor plans that illustrate communication outlet locations, enlarged plans of telecommunication spaces, and provides labeling plans and run lists to support the design. The designer creates project specifications for construction, materials, and testing of components. The engineer will oversee the project throughout the entire project lifecycle, assisting with construction issues, scheduling and budget. The successful candidate should have experience in active communication systems which may include public address, distributed antenna systems, and nurse call. This position will require up to 25% Travel.

Key Responsibilities:
- Support in Leadership:
- Assist the Telecommunication Engineering Leader in the overall planning, direction, and control of telecommunication projects.
- Take charge of telecommunication projects in the absence of the Engineering Leader.
- Project Management:
- Aid in the planning, design, and implementation of telecommunication systems.
- Coordinate with other teams and departments to ensure the seamless integration of new systems.
- Technical Expertise:
- Conduct research to stay updated with the latest telecommunication technologies and suggest improvements or innovations.
- Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues in telecommunication systems.
- Collaborate with the technical team to draft technical specifications and designs.
- Team Management:
- Mentor and guide junior telecommunication engineers, providing technical advice and direction.
- Coordinate training programs to upskill the telecommunication engineering team.
- Facilitate communication between team members, ensuring that challenges are addressed promptly.
- Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all telecommunication projects and systems meet quality standards.
- Monitor the performance of telecommunication networks and adjust as necessary.
- Coordinate regular system audits and tests to ensure optimal performance.
- Stakeholder Communication:
- Maintain effective communication with vendors, contractors, and other external stakeholders.
- Present regular updates to senior management about the status, risks, and developments in telecommunication projects.
- Documentation:
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of all telecommunication engineering documents, including system designs, blueprints, manuals, and reports.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure that all telecommunication systems and projects are compliant with industry regulations and standards.
The Deputy Telecommunication Engineering Leader will be expected to self-perform the tasks listed below in addition to leading other team members with the activities:
- Producing detailed design drawings in AutoCAD or REVIT based on project criteria.
- Producing detailed shop drawings in AutoCAD or REVIT based on project criteria.
- Coordinating communication outlet types, configurations, and locations.
- Producing detailed floor plan and enlarged telecommunication space designs.
- Coordinate infrastructure needs with other systems: CCTV, Access Control, A/V, Fire Alarm, WLAN, Building Automation, etc.
- Coordinating and producing detailed pathway designs to support inside and outside plant cabling infrastructure to include fill calculations.
- Producing and managing cabling run lists.
- Creating and editing project specifications based on project criteria.
- Producing test plans.
- Producing and reviewing project submittals.
- Producing and responding to Requests for Information (RFI)
- Assisting capture teams with take offs and proposal development.
- Develop compliance matrices and other project support documentation.
- Create and maintain drawing, specification, studies, and various design logs.
- Assisting project teams with producing project deliverables.
- Be actively engaged with the project quality control process and produce reports based on observations made on site visits.
- Learn the operation of and lead in the design of active systems to include: nurse call systems, public address systems, distributed antenna systems, and emergency phones.
- Produce plans and test procedures for Pre-Installation and Check Out (PITCO) activities.
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of and utilize relevant sections of NFPA codes, TIA Standards, BICSI publications, or other relevant criteria.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum 5-7 year's recent experience in the telecommunications infrastructure industry with a Bachelor's Degree in a related field, 3-5 year's recent experience in the telecommunications infrastructure industry with a Master's Degree in a related field.
- Detailed, motivated, self-starter; must be able to work independently and lead in a team environment.
- Must be willing to expand knowledge base to new systems and technologies as project demand dictates.
- Must poses and demonstrate basic understanding of TIA standards and NFPA Codes.
- Must be able to successfully pass an extensive background check.
- Must achieve BICSI RCDD credential within one year of employment.
Preferred Experience:
- BICSI RCDD
- Experience working with Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) or Building Information Management (BIM) systems such as REVIT.
- Working knowledge of active communication systems such as Public Address, Nurse Call, Distributed Antenna Systems, WLAN, Emergency Phones.
- Manufacturer certifications a plus.
- Prior field installation and testing experience a plus.
