We are seeking a Senior Fire Protection/Plumbing Engineer to join our team in Miami, Orlando, FL, Alexandria, VA office or Exton, PA office. Relocation assistance is available.

How will you contribute to the team?
  • Lead the fire protection and plumbing design group (5-8 staff in various locations).
  • Oversee/review the design for all the FP/Plumbing projects generated within the Building & Places and PGIS teams.
  • Ensure the Fire Protection and Plumbing designs meet Atkins high design standards.
  • Sign and seal all engineering documents for the fire protection and plumbing design group.
  • Be highly motivated, constantly seek improvement in how we do things, and be willing to take on new challenges.
  • Manage multiple projects immediately, including developing proposals, project planning, staffing, and successful delivery of projects both through independent work and engaging other Atkins/SNCL colleagues.
  • Cultivate working relationships with project managers, project teams, Atkins/SNCL colleagues, and other clients.
  • Effectively network with other fire and life safety industry professionals.
  • Develop thorough and clear Design Analysis, Summary of Code Requirements and Life Safety Plans, and accurate Reports.
  • Provide planning and design details including engineering concepts, distribution plans, riser diagrams, detail drawings, schedules, specifications, design analysis, and engineering reports.
  • Conduct occasional on-site project observations and reviews; duties required to fulfill contractual obligations for construction phase services; overseeing other personnel assigned to this responsibility.

What will you contribute?
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering. M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred. This level may be achieved by Engineers with ten years' experience since B.S. or nine years since M.S. Typical incumbent has 15 to 20 years of experience.
  • The successful candidate will have a minimum 10 years of experience designing fire protection and plumbing systems.
  • This person will be licensed as a fire protection engineer, having passed the NCEES exam for fire protection specifically.
  • A solid background designing automatic sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire pumps, foam and clean agent systems and writing the specifications for these systems is required.
  • The candidate will possess strong understanding of domestic water, sanitary waste, storm systems, compressed air, oil delivery and fuel oil systems.
  • Must be capable of writing specifications using Masterspec and Specsintact.
  • A background of performing sprinkler calculations using the HASS program will be required.
  • A solid understanding of the International Building Code, Plumbing Code, The NFPA codes, and the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) followed by most Federal projects is required.
  • Experience managing a team required.
