Position Overview

The Guidehouse Energy, Sustainability, & Infrastructure segment is a go-to partner for leaders creating sustainable, resilient communities and infrastructure, serving as trusted advisors to utilities and energy companies, large corporations, investors, NGOs, and the public sector. The North Market Team within the Commercial Energy practices works with clients across the energy value chain to guide them through the energy transition. We assist our clients to:
  • develop and implement their decarbonization and resiliency plans.
  • support the strategy, design, and evaluation of customer-focused programs - energy efficiency, heat electrification, demand response, energy storage, electric transportation, distributed solar, among others.
  • support the development and implementation of distribution and transmission investments to modernize energy networks.


As an Associate Director on the North Energy Providers team within the Guidehouse Energy, Sustainability, and Infrastructure segment, you will have responsibility for development of project results and client management on large engagements. You will own the delivery of projects and significant project workstreams and interact regularly with the clients to ensure engagement success. This includes supporting/leading day-to-day internal team meetings and coordinating/facilitating meetings with clients and their stakeholders. You will be expected to prepare and communicate well-organized, effective reports and presentations to clients. You will lead proposal efforts for clients and be expected to contribute to the growth of our existing portfolio. You will lead, coach, and mentor others on the team to ensure quality analysis and deliverables. We are looking for someone with a passion for creative problem solving, client service, and project management.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Managing teams responsible to provide detailed fact finding, research, and analysis on energy-related activities (particularly energy efficiency, grid modernization, renewable energy, customer programs, new business models, and sustainability)
  • Maintaining, and strengthening existing client relationships and workstreams
  • Developing and presenting research findings and recommended plans of action directly to clients
  • Performing, advising, and reviewing technical and economic analyses and other work products of the project team
  • Depending on projects, you will assess emerging energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and summarize their trends, manage building energy modeling or field performance measurement and data collection, design and manage primary data collection activities (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups) or develop and assess strategies for utility programs aimed at increasing customer engagement and improving customer experience or reliability
  • Leading the facilitation of workshops and working sessions between client departments and third-party organizations; review and approve meeting content, drive discussion towards consensus
  • Providing detailed fact finding, research, and analysis on energy-related activities
  • Communicating solutions and new strategies to clients through reports and presentations
  • Contributing to sales of new work


What You Will Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering, business, economics, environmental, science and/or related discipline
  • 7-10 years of relevant industry or consulting experience excluding internships, co-ops, fellowships and academic research
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with data analytics
  • Ability to assume ownership of significant portions of tasks while collaborating with a close-knit team
  • Strong interest in business strategy, energy efficiency, and sustainability
  • An inquisitive nature and desire for continuous improvement
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate as a part of team, as well as to work independently
  • Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines.

  • The salary range for this role may vary based on relevant degree, work experience and physical location at time of hire
  • Level of hire will be determined through Guidehouse interviewing process


What Would Be Nice To Have:
  • Master's degree in an engineering, business, economics, environmental, science and/or related discipline
  • 2+ additional years of relevant industry or consulting experience excluding internships, co-ops and fellowships
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Advanced level proficiency experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Experience creating models within Excel and/or experience with R or other programming languages (e.g. Python)
  • Knowledge and experience in industry topics such as: energy efficiency, electric transportation, renewable energy, electric transmission and distribution infrastructure, natural gas systems, wholesale markets
  • Understanding of business, project, and program management fundamentals
  • Tireless attention to detail in all prior experience (academic and professional)
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations to executive audiences
  • Excellent at visualizing data, synthesizing insights, and storytelling with data
  • A history of successful, creative problem-solving
  • Excitement to explore the underlying cause of the observation/result


The annual salary range for this position is $128,000.00-$256,100.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
