Function:
The Lighting Engineer ensures safe and precise lighting operations at Clearwing. They design systems, anticipate venue constraints, and collaborate with sales to translate client needs into efficient solutions. A key focus of this role is to stay updated on software, gear, and the latest technology to maintain Clearwing's competitive edge. Effective communication, attention to detail, and team support are essential for success in this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Forecast lighting gear, labor, and trucking requirements for all shows providing lighting
• Evaluate competencies of freelance and in-house technician's lighting knowledge alongside the Lead Technicians and Department Heads
• Assign and recommend all lighting labor for shows in collaboration with the sales team per the scope and needs of the show
• Draft all lighting deployments with Vectorworks & Lightwright for accuracy and clarity in planning, execution, and communication of projects to the client, sales, show techs, and the warehouse
• Create, facilitate, and communicate detailed paperwork, including, loom lists, rack elevations, DMX node configurations, networking schematics, cable paths, power consumption, truss tapes, addresses, and more, to the Department Heads and show staff for gear prep and execution
• Understands all lighting consoles, lights, networking switches, dmx nodes, and power and data distribution relevant to current industry standards that are within and outside of Clearwing's inventory
• Advise capital recommendations to the Engineering Manager
• Provide on-call technical support for all shows and shops
• Facilitate the development, maintenance, and training of companywide lighting standards
• Coordinate the repair, maintenance, and software/firmware updates of all lighting equipment with internal and external service technicians
• Works closely with the Lighting Asset Coordinator on gear movements, vendor relationships, and pricing audits
• Stay informed about the latest and upcoming technology and equipment releases
• Available to go to site surveys or show site as needed to assist in the load-in, run, and load out of show while interfacing with clients and technicians
• Occasionally assist others on the Engineering team with staging, scenic, and other drawing needs
• Coordinate and organize manufacturer trainings with the Engineering Manager

Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications:
• Minimum Five (5) years' experience in production lighting entertainment industry
• Vectorworks
• Lightwright preferred
• Strong Understanding of Networking
• Ability to work in high stress environment with tight deadlines
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, One Drive, and other Microsoft apps
• OSHA 30 preferred
Physical Working Conditions:
• Regularly bend, twist, stretch, push, pull and carry, lift 50-75 lbs
• Sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
• Walk up and down stairs or ladders and comfortable with heights
• Work in various temperatures and outdoor weather conditions
• Work "on-call" as needed including some nights, weekends, and holidays
• Work long hours and overtime as required
• Able to Travel (possibly with short notice)
