Position Overview:
Reporting to the Technology Support Team Lead, the Mining Technology and Autonomy Engineer will provide expertise and ongoing technical support to assist the support team and customers on the use and operation of Caterpillar® Mining and Construction software and hardware technologies.
The primary function of the Mining Technology and Autonomation Engineer is to provide ongoing technical support to end-users and customers, as well as mentor coworkers on the use and operation of Mining software and hardware technologies. Using a combination of expertise and coordination with Finning and Caterpillar®, the successful candidate will provide troubleshooting and assistance implementing of the software and hardware for Cat® Technologies including, but not limited to: Command, Health, Fleet, Terrain, Site Aware, DSS, and Trimble Heavy Civil technologies that is currently used at the customers mining and construction operations. Responsibilities may also include Finning technologies under the CUBIQ family of services.
This role will be primarily based out of British Columbia on a hybrid work schedule with requirements to be dispatched to our sites across Western Canada (Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories). On-call schedule will be required. Shift work and travel to site at 50% or more of working hours may be required as projects schedule dictates.
The total annual compensation target for this position is $80,000-$95,000 annually.

Job Description:
- Customer technical support and implementation activities for both Minestar® and Caterpillar suite of products.
- Support the software updates and hardware upgrades at the customers' operation.
- Support the calibration and commissioning of new/existing equipment.
- Identify and troubleshoot product issues and take appropriate actions to repair and resolve issues in a cost-effective way to minimize customer downtime.
- Configuration management of Minestar® and Caterpillar suite of products.
- Supporting customer Operational, Mine Planning and Maintenance teams.
- Manage projects and communication with customers to deliver upgrades, calibrations and troubleshooting as promised.
- Create new and review existing documentation as well as provide expert feedback on documentation/procedures created internally and by customers. This may include, but not be limited to, making recommendations to customers for corrective actions.
- Investigate and report product failure trends and serviceability issues.
- Execute projects as directed to help develop customer requirements and develop customer processes to work efficiently with the systems.
- Inventory and tooling management: Maintain and track all Minestar® and/or Caterpillar technology inventory and tooling stored at the Edmonton Lab Room that may be used for internal training or diagnosis of customer technology parts.
- Complete lessons learned as directed.
- Complete documentation as required for support handover activities.
- Update and create documentation as required by customers for the MineStar® and Caterpillar technology systems.
- Develop best practices and documentation to support the Operations, Maintenance and Reliability of the Equipment and MineStar® and Caterpillar technology systems.
- Internal mentoring and training - provide product and process cross-training to team members.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 1-3 years experience in a technical role with a focus on providing solutions for customers with Post-secondary education in fields such as: Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering
Or
- 5 years of experience in mining or construction operations with in-depth knowledge of computers and mining/heavy civil construction technology, you are also eligible.
- Experienced with various office programs MS Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Additional Skills
- The successful candidate will have knowledge of major fleet management systems including MineStar/Wenco/Modular
- Experience in Mining Operations or Heavy Civil Construction is an asset
- Mine Planning experience an asset
- Knowledgeable in GPS/GNSS systems
- Experience with computer networking
- Civil CAD, Vulcan, Deswik or other Mine Engineering software experience an asset
