Job Description

UPMC Community Pharmacy is looking for a Float Pharmacist to join their dedicated team supporting their locations in the Pittsburgh area.

You will ensure the provision of cost-effective pharmacotherapy contributing to optimal patient outcomes, provide experiential education for present and future health care practitioners, and support drug-related research.

This is a "float" position supporting Outpatient Community Pharmacies locations: Falk, Presby, Forbes, Pint Size, Mercy, Magee, McKeesport, East, Community Pharmacy and Hillman.

Primarily a daylight position, with occasional shifts until 7:30 pm. Limited weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Review, maintain, and screen patient medication records and profiles for allergies, drug interactions and therapeutic duplications while entering orders and/or verifying medications.
  • Identify and report suspected adverse drug reactions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Interpret and evaluate physician orders in order to prepare, calculate, and dispense appropriate medication dosage forms for inpatient and outpatient treatment in accordance with the Practicing State's Pharmacy Practice Act, Federal Drug Laws, and other regulatory organizations.
  • Organize daily operational duties and assist in the supervision of pharmacy technicians, pharmacy aides, student interns and other ancillary personnel involved in providing pharmaceutical care.
  • Fill prescription orders in accordance with State and Federal regulations, utilizing technological resources and equipment.
  • Utilize all available technologies in the provision of pharmaceutical care (i.e., computer systems and databases, Acu-Dose, Robot-Rx, pneumatic tube system, etc).
  • Provide drug information and/or educational programs to healthcare professionals and pharmacy students.
  • Communicate with physicians and nurses to insure prompt clarification of orders that are unclear, illegible, or incomplete.
  • Adhere to all regulatory requirements, professional standards of practice, and hospital quality management policies and procedures in providing pharmaceutical care.
  • B.S. degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D.) from an accredited school of pharmacy required.
