Description
The Lead Estimator - Civil Construction - Columbia will:
- Project Analysis: Review project plans, blueprints, and specifications to understand the construction project's scope, requirements, and constraints.
- Quantity Takeoffs: Perform quantity takeoffs to quantify materials, labor, and equipment needed for the project by measuring and counting components such as concrete, steel, pipes, and other materials.
- Cost Estimation: Utilize historical data, industry knowledge, and software tools to accurately estimate costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and other associated expenses.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Reach out to suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain quotes and pricing information. Evaluate and compare bids to determine the most cost-effective options.
- Budget Development: Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to develop and refine project budgets, providing detailed estimates and cost breakdowns to assist in planning.
- Cost Tracking: Monitor project costs throughout construction to ensure adherence to the budget. Identify variances and recommend cost-saving measures as needed.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and uncertainties affecting project costs and timelines, developing contingency plans to mitigate these issues.
- Bid Preparation: Prepare comprehensive and competitive bids for new contracts or projects the company is pursuing.
- Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, engineers, project managers, and subcontractors, to effectively communicate cost-related information.
Profile
The Lead Estimator - Civil Construction - Columbia should possess the following qualifications:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred, but not always required.
- Experience: At least 6 years of relevant experience in construction estimating.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and processes.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in using construction estimating software and other relevant tools.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build interpersonal relationships.
- Teamwork and Independence: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with local building codes and regulations.
- Contractual Understanding: Knowledge of construction contracts and legal requirements.
