Autism Psychologist

The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health at Childrens Mercy Kansas City is recruiting a psychologist with expertise in autism spectrum disorder and associated developmental/mental health conditions to join the Autism Team at Childrens Mercy. The primary focus of the position will be the delivery of autism/developmental diagnostic evaluations, with the option to provide additional clinical service based on the candidates expertise and interests (e.g., delivery of evidence-based intervention). The position will include opportunities for clinical training/education through the hospitals APA-accredited psychology internship, psychology and developmental-behavioral pediatrics fellowships, pediatric clerkship and residency programs, and psychology practicums. Interested candidates will also be invited to contribute to community educational outreach efforts, as well as research and program development activities focused on autism and neurodevelopmental disabilities. The position carries an academic appointment at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine, with rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Candidates must hold a PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology or a closely related field (e.g., school psychology), have completed an APA-approved internship, and be license-eligible as a psychologist in Missouri and Kansas. Candidates should have specialized training related to the evidence-based diagnostic evaluation of autism/developmental disabilities in youth (e.g., ADOS training, interdisciplinary diagnostic experience). Additional strengths in evidence-based intervention are desirable but not required (e.g., parent training/behavioral intervention, CBT for youth with ASD, executive functioning interventions). Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship is preferred but not required.

Childrens Mercy Kansas Citys behavioral health team includes over 50 psychologists, 8 developmental pediatricians, 8 child/adolescent psychiatrists, and other allied professionals who support the care of children and families impacted by pediatric illness (chronic pain, cancer, GI, etc.) and/or mental health issues (ADHD and disruptive behavior, internalizing disorders, PTSD, sleep problems, developmental disabilities, etc.). The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health currently serves as a site for the Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Research Network and the National Curriculum Initiative in Developmental Medicine, with active grants focused on autism/developmental disabilities from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute.
