Your Opportunity

We are seeking a Project Architect to join our integrated buildings practice. This position will contribute to Stantec's success by leading the AE team in planning, executing, and delivering projects ranging from $30 million to over $200 million in construction values. This role is expected to use sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and effective tools and techniques to execute and deliver projects. You will be the technical lead for the Buildings/AE team and will work collaboratively with the project manager to deliver best-value projects on time.

Your experience ensures that you are familiar with all phases of project development and capable of leading the production of design and contract documents. You will be innovating and creating new prototypes designed with sustainable products with green architecture sensibility as your goals. You will lead the development of integrated design proposals, continuously updating of a building information model, and preparing a variety of output/drawings throughout the project, while leading and mentoring others and collaborating with team members to contribute to the final deliverables as required under instruction from the project managers.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Technical team lead/manager of projects.
  • Adhering to project schedule.
  • Be the client's trusted partner to provide technical knowledge of codes and standards, building systems, and materials.
  • Development of technical specifications for projects.
  • Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.
  • Utilize BIM technologies in the development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.
  • Participate in design critiques and pin-ups.
  • Technical lead for design-build pursuits.
  • Interpret and apply building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare and revise documentation in various architectural phases including site plans, floor plans, building elevations, building sections, details, specifications, etc.
  • Participate in the bidding and negotiation phase and prepare addenda.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals, respond to RFIs, prepare site observation reports, and other contract administration tasks.
  • Lead project coordination and meetings with technical team members internal or external consultants, owner and contractor, and sub-contractors.
  • Manage technical team and process creating contract documents.
  • Participate in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
  • Coordination of specs with construction documents.
  • Participate in constructability reviews.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Familiar with Unified Facilities Criteria and California Building Codes.
  • Strong understanding of all phases of architectural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Capable of developing technical project specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of building construction systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Ability to conduct space planning, block planning and adjacencies in coordination with building program.
  • Ability to develop floor plans, wall sections, and details in Revit.
  • Ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of architectural document production.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting through all phases of architectural document production.
  • Ability to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
  • Ability to communicate abstract ideas (verbal/written).
  • Ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively while working remotely.
  • Strong presentation and interview skills.
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, Bluebeam Studio, BIM 360, AutoCAD, Abobe Creative Suite, SketchUP.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • Experience with E-Specs preferred but not required.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Architecture.

Must be a-licensed Architect.

United States Citizenship required.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in the architectural-engineering industry with a minimum of 5 years as a project architect leading the AE team.

LEED accreditations are pluses.

Travel: 25%

Skilled in Revit.

Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):
  • $102,000 - $152,900 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in WA
  • CA Other Areas $95,000 - CA Other Areas $152,900 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
