Chief Engineer
Reports to: Director of Maintenace
SUMMARY:
The Chief Engineer improves functionality and reliability of all production and facility equipment by scheduling, assisting with, and auditing quality of all preventative maintenance assignments and by providing training to Technicians to enhance their PM-related abilities. This manager is primarily responsible for maintenance in our Syracuse, NY plant, oversees coin-op laundry operations, buildings, and grounds (anything exterior for both plants), and leads with a positive attitude and sense of urgency.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Chief Engineer
Reports to: Director of Maintenace
SUMMARY:
The Chief Engineer improves functionality and reliability of all production and facility equipment by scheduling, assisting with, and auditing quality of all preventative maintenance assignments and by providing training to Technicians to enhance their PM-related abilities. This manager is primarily responsible for maintenance in our Syracuse, NY plant, oversees coin-op laundry operations, buildings, and grounds (anything exterior for both plants), and leads with a positive attitude and sense of urgency.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Primarily responsible for all maintenance in the plant, reporting to Director of Maintenance who is seated in our Johnstown, NY plant
- Schedule, hire, train, and manage Technician team
- Assist Technician team with completion of work orders
- Audit quality of Technician PM work, providing feedback and training
- Adjust schedule accordingly to ensure that needed repairs are completed
- Manages buildings and grounds related functions and upkeep for both plants (plowing, mowing, etc)
- Is a partner to both VPs for work related to safety and accreditations; current (HLAC) and future
- Safety and accreditations are a VP/GM responsibility
- Complete other tasks as assigned by Director of Maintenance and maintain frequent communication with DM
- Assist with maintaining parts inventory to ensure continued operation of the plant
- Meets formally with Director of Maintenance once weekly at minimum
Physical Demands
- Lift and move up to 100 pounds.
- Regular bending, lifting, kneeling, stretching, and reaching both below the waist and above the head.
- Engage in full dexterity with both hands and wrists. Walking throughout the facility and its grounds with great frequency.
- Ability to climb ladders and gangways safely and without limitations.
- Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, lint, fumes/odors, hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
- Must be able to stand/walk for up to 8 hours
- Work schedule varies and is approximately 50 hours per week, more at times
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum five years working experience repairing industrial processing equipment in an industrial environment or in the military.
- Minimum two years supervision and maintenance management experience.
- Equipment knowledge, including wiring, electrical, electronic components, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Able to read maintenance literature printed in English.
- Prior experience with and ability to read a blueprint or electrical schematic drawing.
- High school diploma or equivalent
