This Opportunity
Provides technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, and environmental permitting projects. Tasks may include assisting with the analysis, development, and design of processes and infrastructure relating to water supply, stormwater facilities, irrigation facilities, culverts, hydrology, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, floodplain modeling/mapping, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, river/stream/habitat restoration and fish passage, pollution control and treatment, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of water resources. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding field conditions, and assessing and advising on the short- and long-term risks to ecological and human health. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact
- Collect, identify, and compile environmental data from samples of water, sludge, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.
- Perform professional water resources engineering work and assist with conducting investigations, analysis, and inspections relating to water supply/quality/management, stormwater facilities, irrigation facilities, culverts, hydrology, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, floodplain modeling/mapping, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, canal development, river/stream/habitat restoration and fish passage, waste disposal, and pollution control and treatment activities to avert the contamination and degradation of water resources and determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
- Ensure that the planning and management of available water supply is adequately leveraged, treated, improved upon and remains safe for various end uses - recreationally, commercially, and/or industrially.
- Participate in developing advanced technologies, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to reduce the volume and toxicity of pollutants, account for the negative environmental impact of industrial facilities, power plants, and transportation vehicles/systems, and allow for greater use of water resources.
- Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work, assist with emission and mass balance calculations, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
- Verify the characteristics of a site, providing technical assistance on various environmental issues, water cycles, and flow to determine the influence of weather and other environmental forces.
- Research environmental databases regarding historical property land uses.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
- Assist with performing concept level design of treatment works, analysis of hydrologic and hydraulic models, and computations for storm water and watershed master planning, stream restoration, and water quality studies.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to prevent, control, restore, clean-up, or address environmental issues or problems.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of environmental data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to mid-level threat mitigation activities.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to environmental permitting and project work-related issues.
- Knowledge of Stormwater Management, Drainage, Erosion and Sediment Control, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, etc.
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
- Knowledge with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products., and mitigation programs.
- Knowledge of the techniques used in identifying, measuring, sampling and studying environmental control.
- Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Basic experience with preparing permit applications for oversight agencies to address the full range of environmental issues and conditions associated with water resources projects.
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Familiarity with surface water analysis, hydrologic methodologies/models (TR-55, HEC-HMS, etc.), hydraulic models (HEC-RAS, HEC-RAS-2D, HEC-GeoRAS, SRH-2D, etc), and with ESRI ArcGIS software.
- Experience with coordinating technical matters with public and private groups
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Engineering.
- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120).
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
