Job Summary:
The Manager of Social Services is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Social Services department at HPMC and Acute Rehabilitation including day to day Social Service programs. - Delivery of social work programs/services.
- Quality management.
- Fiscal management, and patient/community planning services.
- Manage staff (including staff deployed to multiple departments and locations).
- Ensure competencies.
- Provide clinical leadership and supervision/consultation.
- Develop, implement and monitor the quality management programs for social services.
- Assess and analyze staff development needs.
- Develop and/or present educational/development services that support the delivery of high quality social work.
- Develop and manage departmental budget and costs including identification and implementation of opportunities for improved services, value enhancement, and cost reduction/management.
- Manage (including collaborating with human resources) and resolve human resources, labor relations, employee performance issues.
- Safety and risk management issues on a first level basis.
- Analyze and implement appropriate staffing levels and skill-mix.
- Recommend, develop, and implement new programs enhancing quality of care and services to specialized patient populations.
- Participate in writing and/or developing grant proposals.
- Identify community resources; collaborate with community organizations in developing new programs and enhancing community services patients and other users of our services.
- Collaborate/consult with medical center physician chiefs, departmental managers, and other users of social work services, on psycho-social matters/service needs and ensures that service is provided in an integrated and comprehensive manner.
- Identify issues which interface with service delivery and develop techniques to resolve them.
- Ensure compliance with federal, local and state regulatory/compliance standards.
- Make sound decisions on best use of resources in support of medical center priorities and strategies.
- Provide leadership and guidance in stewarding the organization through inevitable change which integrates different points of view and builds ownership.
- Support the successful operational implementation and use of technology and New Products.

Minimum Education:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent related experience required.
Preferred Education:
- Master's degree in social work from an academic institution accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of clinical social work experience.
- Minimum 1 year of supervision in an acute hospital setting required.
- Proficient in collaborating with patients residing outside of a home and dealing with substance abuse issues.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize knowledge, principles and practices of fiscal and program management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of social services treatment/delivery issues, as well as theories of human development and psycho dynamics.
- Ability to demonstrate oversight to Social Services members.
- Demonstrated leadership and an ability to influence and motivate others.
- Demonstrated success in operations improvement efforts, cost management initiatives, and hospital and health system development and management.
- Must be able to work in a union environment.
Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications:
- 3-5 years Acute Care Hospital Medical Social Worker experience
Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation (List any licensure or certification required and specify name of agency.)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Current Los Angeles County Fire Card (or must be obtained within 30 days of employment)
