Position: Medical Physicist

Overview: As a Medical Physicist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality assurance, calibration, acceptance testing, and commissioning of therapy machines and treatment planning systems. Your expertise will be essential in supporting the Cancer Center's mission and maintaining radiation safety.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Oversee comprehensive quality assurance processes for therapy machines and treatment planning systems.
  • Utilize and demonstrate proficiency in Eclipse Treatment Planning, VariSeed, and Brachyvision systems.
  • Implement and manage procedures including 3D-Conformal therapy, IMRT, IGRT, RapidArc, SRS, SBRT, HDR Brachytherapy, and patient dose verification with MapCheck and Mobius 3D.
  • Ensure adherence to radiation safety protocols and conduct thorough chart checks.

Key Duties:
  • Collaborate closely with medical and nursing staff, as well as hospital managers, to align Cancer Center operations and radiation safety with established goals.
  • Operate and maintain advanced equipment including the Truebeam unit, Varisource iX HDR system, Philips Big Bore 16 Slice CT simulator, and Eclipse treatment planning system.
  • Engage with various imaging modalities such as MRI, PET/CT, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine imaging.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to physics and therapeutic services.
  2. Proficiency in developing and directing quality control programs for Radiation Therapy.
  3. Strong organizational skills and effective communication at all levels.
  4. Commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards while meeting the needs of patients and medical staff.
  5. Ability to implement organizational changes to enhance Cancer Center functions and patient care.
  6. Collaboration with Medical Staff and hospital administration to ensure alignment with Health System and Center objectives.
  7. Design and oversee patient care delivery systems, considering patient needs, community needs, and resource availability.
  8. Capability to work effectively with a diverse range of personnel, including physicians, clinical directors, administrative staff, and community officials.
  9. Clear and accurate verbal and written communication skills.
  10. Comprehensive understanding of legal, regulatory, ethical, and managerial standards for physics activities.
  11. Ensure the maintenance of Cancer Center records in compliance with hospital, government, and accrediting agency requirements.
  12. Develop and manage educational programs related to radiation safety and staff training, in collaboration with the Director of Physics.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Master's or Doctorate degree in Medical Physics or a related field required. Preference for graduates from a CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics program.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years as a Medical Physicist in a Radiation Therapy department, including residency experience. Authorization as a Medical Physicist by the NRC and/or State agency required within one year of hire.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential.
