Design Engineer - Steam Turbine Valves:A Snapshot of Your Day

The Valve Design and Repair team you join supports the Steam Turbine Valve (STV) product for its entire life; from initial design, to manufacture, to operation, to service, and into major upgrades. This team provides R&D for new and service products, new apparatus customer order engineering, and field & factory service of STV and related auxiliary components. As a design engineer on this team, you will have broad responsibilities to ensure the integrity of Siemens-Energy's valve products.

Your daily tasks will vary depending on the type of customer project assigned. You may support the field or operational questions. Develop new products including design's analysis and design reviews for our new products and service solutions. Design new valve upgrades or repair methods. Support service inspections and repairs. Support new unit orders. With all assigned projects, you will collaborate with a cross-organizational team to satisfy our customers and help Siemens-Energy be the world's top energy sector company.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Lead design for STV, hydraulic actuators, steam piping and auxiliary components for solutions in new apparatus, modernization, and service applications. Designs include development of upgrades, repair methods, new designs and service opportunity mediations.
  • Lead design engineering on implementation of repair orders including product definition; shop and field inspection, repair, installation, and operation.
  • Develop and release for manufacture all product definition documents including graphics, bill of materials, and product's process specifications.
  • Provide design disposition of field and shop inspections and deviations, and field operational trouble shooting.
  • Provide shop follow for new valve product manufacturing, while leading engineering studies for component life assessment, and other engineering analysis requests.
  • Support field service engineers and customers in forced outage recovery programs and root cause investigations.
What You Bring
  • Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience from accredited university/college. 1+ years of related engineering work experience, including internships and co-op rotations.
  • Design experience with strength of materials, structural analysis, and machine design. Desired: Experience in using finite element analysis tools like Ansys, Abaqus, or NX. Also, leadership experience in project teams and a track record of delivering work in a technical setting. Project management and meeting goals while leading / interacting with teams to acquire consensus in developing designs and repair processes.
  • Outstanding leadership, effective communication, and customer service skills needed to collaborate with customers, field and factory personnel, engineering teams, and management across various locations and/or countries. Proficiency in verbal and written communication, as well as technical presentations to customers or management, is imperative.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel, is desired.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Experienced with SAP and TeamCenter or other, similar IT platforms desired
  • Design experience in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mechanical vibrations, creep & fatigue desired
  • Familiarity with steam turbine products, and repair methods for major equipment a plus
