Bunzl Distribution is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support our enterprise data, voice, and wireless and network security infrastructure. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing secure enterprise local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network and security hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training where required. The environment is primarily Cisco, with Meraki, Aruba and Palo Alto devices. Network hardware includes routers, switches, wireless access points/controllers and VOIP Phones. Security platforms include next-generation firewalls, Internet Security Gateways and Cloud-based security applications.
Successful candidates for the Senior Network Engineer role must have a collaborative attitude and essential skills in the areas of leadership and development of team mentality and guidance of less experienced personnel. Someone with strong communication skills when dealing with management and customers, as well as documentation, mentoring traits and techniques would be a good fit for this role. You will ideally be CCNP to CCNA certified and be able to comfortably communicate both inside and outside of your department on technical and business issues, as well as demonstrating impressive IP networking knowledge.

Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy and maintain complex network and security solutions to meet basic or advanced business requirements, and/or improve overall performance
- Configure, support, and maintain routers, switches, network appliances, firewalls, concentrators, wireless LAN, LTE WAN and other communication devices
- Design and deploy LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including routers, switches, UPS and other applicable hardware
- Develop, implement and maintain documentation for policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, configuration, usage, network mapping, and disaster recovery
- Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry
- Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation within industry recognized standards of performance, quality and effectiveness, while fulfilling business objectives and processes
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed, remediating issues professionally and concisely
- Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, and other network appliances
- Show proficiency with the use of packet capture and protocol analysis tools and techniques
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
- Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports
- Co-developing configuration and change management policies to provide a method of approval and success of changes made to networks
- Mentor and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team
- Design and implement new technologies and provide technical leadership to the department
- Assist in development of cloud strategy, including Microsoft O365, Hybrid Cloud designs, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure environments
- Develop technical integration plans for business acquisitions
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred
- Minimum of 4 years of accredited college work with a degree in Information Systems (BS or BA); degree requirements may be waived with significant related and demonstrable work experiences
- Minimum of 6-8 years of increasing responsibilities in a networking/telecommunications function of an IT organization
- Highly desirable to possess a Cisco CCNA certification with additional paths for voice, wireless, routing, switching and security
- Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, and WLAN design and implementation
- Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices
- Strong, hands-on technical knowledge of network operating systems, including Cisco IOS
- Proficient use of packet analyzers, network assessment tools (Wireshark, Sniffer)
- Familiarity with Wireless evaluation tools (Ekahau or similar) and implementation of multiple wireless platforms including Cisco, Extreme Networks and Motorola
- Excellent knowledge of VoIP systems (Mitel, Cisco)
- Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including TCP/IP, UDP, IPV4, VoIP, QOS, EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP
- Software Defined WAN technologies (Viptela)
- Working technical knowledge of current network monitoring tools and techniques (Solarwinds)
- Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience
- Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Able to conduct independent research into networking issues and products as required
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
