As a Senior Electrical Engineering Project Manager in Vanderweil's Power & Utilities Group, you will be serving with and mentoring a team designing unique projects involving campus, industrial and institutional electrical distribution systems and microgrids with integrated sustainability and building infrastructure for large scale medium and low voltage electrical distribution projects. Some of your responsibilities include the following:

Every Vanderweil Engineers team member brings something unique to the table. Here is what we are looking for with this role:
  • Provides overall leadership and guidance for Power & Utilities projects with significant electrical power components.
  • Plans, directs, supervises, and controls the execution of all business, technical, fiscal, and administrative functions of the assigned project. The ideal candidate will leverage both engineering technical and business expertise to provide true leadership support for each of these functions.
  • Acts as the Company representative and main point of contact with the Client, contractors, and other key personnel during project execution.
  • Oversees establishment of requirements for all areas of the project within Vanderweil's scope of supply, and monitors project activity for adherence to these criteria. This includes working in close collaboration with leadership, engineers, designers, and discipline leads to develop budgets, schedules and work plans for various elements of a project. Ensures that the project meets or exceeds goals established in these plans.
  • Develops and manages scope of work during project execution. This includes identifying and negotiating changes to the scope of work with the Client and key subcontractors.
  • Develops high-level concepts for electrical equipment and system design that meet project requirements and leads the design team through development and delivery of project documentation. This is akin to a Project Engineer or Engineering Technical Lead type of a role within the project hierarchy.
  • Executes electrical designs in accordance with Power Group procedures and standards and specific client standards where applicable.
  • Maintains strong understanding of all associated Codes and Standards and ensures project compliance.
  • Leads power system analysis efforts including short circuit, equipment evaluation, protective device coordination, and arc flash studies using software tools.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and understanding of project schedule, status, and technical issues. Manages technical issues as they arise.
  • Sets up and manages internal quality assurance and quality control reviews for all project deliverables prior to client submission.
  • Develops agendas for and runs internal design team meetings and owner/engineer meetings.
  • Performs construction administration tasks such as field visits and subsequent issuance of field reports, responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings.

Operations and Staff Development:
  • Collaborates and coordinates with corporate and department leadership to manage group and project staffing, development of standards and templates that will improve efficiency and aid in the development, training and mentoring of younger staff, and establishment of overall corporate, department and team culture.
  • Provides leadership and support to assigned staff on technical and administrative issues. Candidate should be able to motivate, counsel, coach and develop direct reports and other members of the Vanderweil project team.
  • Continuously improves the team's deliverable quality, communications, attitude, and efficiency. Establish clearly defined goals and standards of employee performance.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Proven Leadership experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Degreed (BSEE) and licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in California, preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in MEP consulting, design-build, or construction companies
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience as Electrical Engineer or Project Engineer (preferred experience is on electrical power or power distribution projects)
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience working with industry-standard engineering and project management software tools (AutoCAD, Revit, NavisWorks, SKM Power Tools for Windows, AmpCalc, ETAP, AGI32, MS Project, etc.)
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience as a Project Manager directing project staff and running large and complex electrical power projects

The compensation that we expect to pay for this position is commensurate with years of experience, professional licensure, and education, but should be in the $150,000 to $190,000 range.
