General Summary:
The Network Engineer will help design and implement PRTC's data networks, including core routers, aggregation switches, data center infrastructure, VoIP networks, security systems, transport networks and video distribution networks. Additionally, this position is responsible for technical leadership, vendor selection, capital budget planning and future technology planning.

The Network Engineer will help design and implement PRTC's data networks, including core routers, aggregation switches, data center infrastructure, VoIP networks, security systems, transport networks and video distribution networks. Additionally, this position is responsible for technical leadership, vendor selection, capital budget planning and future technology planning.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide technical leadership in the design, implementation and administration of PRTC's data networks with an emphasis on the underlying EVPN core network.
- Provide for the design, implementation and planning of the network architecture needed to support wide scale IP services deployment.
- Develop design specifications, technical requirements, technical diagrams and documentation needed to ensure successful delivery of data services and applications.
- Manage IP core routers including configuration, software upgrades and capacity planning.
- Research new technologies to ensure PRTC is deploying networks capable of delivering advanced products and services.
- Monitor and manage PRTC's IP data networks for capacity and performance needs. Recognize needed enhancements to the networks in advance of customer impact.
- Provide technical service and support to our Managed Services product line including designing new customer networks, assisting with research, quotes for new projects and providing remote and on-site technical support for managed business customers.
- Provide recommendations on capital budget planning required for company plans and objectives for all related network equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of IP networking protocols and architectures, such as ISIS, MP-BGP in an EVPN and segment routing in an active/active environment. Knowledge of CGN in an ISP environment. Advanced knowledge of routing and switching equipment and network testing equipment in an ISP environment.
- Strong knowledge of the OSI model, TCP/IP, IP routing and CIDR notation. Experience with multicast preferred. A good understanding of MS Windows and a working demonstrated understanding of the Linux operating system.
- In depth, working knowledge of LAN/WAN troubleshooting, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, NAT, QoS required.
- Maintains mentoring relationship with junior personnel. Provides training to other segments of the Network Engineering Department.
- Must be able to create and maintain networking typologies and diagrams, documenting the creation of or additions to PRTC's data networks.
- Working knowledge of Ethernet wiring standards. Working knowledge of fiber and fiber optics technologies and their applications in a carrier environment.
Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree in computer science or related field required, bachelor's degree in computer science preferred, but will consider equivalent combinations of education and experience.
- Five or more years of experience in IP network operations, WAN and LAN technologies and protocols.
- Must have a current Cisco CCNA certificate or industry equivalents.
- Must have working knowledge in Ethernet networks including 802.1ad, MPLS, EVPN, segment routing and G.8032.
- Must have a strong understanding of telecom access technologies such as XGS and G-PON, Carrier Ethernet standards and good working knowledge of wireless technologies, Wifi 5,6,6e etc.
- Understanding of VoIP applications and QoS preferred.
