 General Statement of Duties & Organizational Responsibilities

Temporary, non-benefited technical position to work exclusively on maintenance and calibration of analytical process control and monitoring instrumentation, benchtop analysis, data analytics, and research efforts. The candidate will work as part of an analytical team executing work under the direction of Technology and Innovation Staff.

 Examples of Duties:

  1. Clean, perform maintenance procedures and calibrate in-process analytical instrumentation
  2. Perform benchtop nutrient analyses
  3. Record and analyze analytical and process data
  4. Coordinate and communicate with other operations and engineering staff
  5. Assist with instrument trials and applied research projects

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  Minimum of three semesters college education with demonstrated academic performance in coursework in the physical and/or biological sciences, civil and/or environmental engineering fields. The ability to conduct physical work related to the operation and maintenance of in-process analytical instrumentation. Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment and comply with all safety requirements associated with an operating facility. Excellent communication, experimental design, and quantitative skills.
 
 Desired Qualifications
  An undergraduate degree in engineering, environmental science, biology, chemistry or related field. Prior experience working on water or wastewater research, bench scale and pilot experiments. A strong interest in pursuing a career in the wastewater/environmental industry.

Work Environment

 While performing he duties of the job, the employee is exposed to work in high, precarious places 1/3 to 2/3 of the time. The employee is exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, wet and humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather) risk of electrical shock, work with explosives, risk of radiation, and vibration less than 1/3 of the time. The noise level is in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands

 The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.  The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell less than 1/3 of the time.  The employee must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds 1/3 to 2/3 of the time, and up to 50 pounds less than 1/3 of the time.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
