Cook Children's Health Care System (CCHCS) and the Jane and John Justin Institute for Mind Health, located in Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX, are seeking a qualified Child Neurologist to join their team in Lubbock, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing neurological services and coordinating high-end subspecialty care across West Texas.

Position Highlights:

  • Provide outpatient neurology care and inpatient consultations at Covenant Childrens Hospital in Lubbock.
  • Collaborate with leadership to build a clinical practice in Lubbock.
  • Subspecialty clinics for epilepsy, headache, and movement disorders offered monthly by Fort Worth and Amarillo staff.
  • Telemedicine consultations available for additional neurological subspecialty care.
  • Share call responsibilities with Cook Childrens neurologists across West Texas and the Prosper campus.

This collaborative care environment includes departments such as Psychiatry, Psychology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and more. While not a university-based program, clinical research is an important component, supported by a multi-million-dollar Neuroscience Research Endowment.

Key Program Highlights:

  • Join a specialized group of 21 Child Neurologists, 8 Nurse Practitioners, 3 Pediatric Neurosurgeons, 1 Physiatrist, and 4 Neuropsychologists.
  • Subspecialty support from nationally ranked programs in Epilepsy, DBS, Movement Disorders, and Headache.
  • Future development of a Lubbock epilepsy monitoring unit.
  • Access to advanced technologies, including 3T MRI, intraoperative MRI, PET, SPECT, fMRI, TMS, and HD-EEG.
  • Support from Cook Childrens epilepsy surgery program (40 surgeries/year).
  • Follow complex patients at the Fort Worth campus, including access to a 26-bed Neuro-Rehabilitation unit.
  • Call coverage shared 1:5 with physicians in Amarillo and Prosper campuses.
  • Teaching opportunities and faculty appointment with Texas Tech University.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits, including:
    • Base salary at the 80th percentile.
    • WRVU productivity-based incentives.
    • Fellows retention program: $2,500 monthly stipend from contract signing through practice start.

Covenant Childrens Hospital:

Covenant Childrens Hospital (CCH), part of Covenant Health and Providence-St. Joseph Health, is a 275-bed facility and the only freestanding childrens hospital in the West Texas/Panhandle Plains region. CCH operates a level IV NICU and is the region's only level II Pediatric Trauma Center. The hospital also offers high-risk maternal care and features over 175 physicians across nearly all pediatric subspecialties.

CCH partners with regional facilities, including those in Midland and Odessa, providing pediatric hospitalist services. The hospital is also a key teaching site for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), training approximately 24 pediatric residents each year.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed an accredited pediatric specialty training program.
  • Board certified/board eligible in Child Neurology.
  • Eligible for an unrestricted Texas Medical License.
