 ACS Administrator Job Description

Position: Albany Christian School Administrator (Principal)

I        Position Summary:

            The ACS Administrator will function as a complementary addition to the overall leadership team of Willamette Community Church, giving specific leadership and direction to Albany Christian School (P-8) and most specifically for grades K-8.

            Under the direct oversight of the WCC Lead Pastor, and in close coordination with the ACS Board, the Administrator will be responsible for the leadership, administration, and supervision of the school and its staff.  Specific duties and responsibilities are outlined below.

II       Organizational Relationships & Accountability:

            The Administrator will be directly responsible to the WCC Lead Pastor, and under the ultimate authority of the WCC Elder Board.  For the purpose of coordination and organizational unity, he/she will function as a member of the “church” staff team as well as being a member of Willamette Community Church.  For the purpose of coordination and organizational unity he/she will meet regularly with the Elder Board and Church Staff and be considered a vital part of the overall church leadership.

He/she will receive a formal, written evaluation from the WCC Lead Pastor each year in conjunction with a salary review.

III      Responsibilities:

A.         Spiritual Leadership of the School

The Administrator provides spiritual leadership to the school staff and student body by initiating and providing time to meet with teachers in devotion and prayer.  Spiritual leadership is also accomplished by the following:

  • Encouraging and assisting the faculty in the integration of Biblical principles in all subject areas. 
  • Overseeing weekly chapels to worship, teach, and give special spiritual emphasis. 
  • Encouraging a spirit of Christian unity and fellowship in the faculty and staff.

B.         Administration of the School

The Administrator is responsible for the accomplishment of organizational objectives of the school.  This is done in the following capacities:

  • Making reports as required by the School Board, Willamette Community Church, and/or local or state departments.
  • Leading the School Board in setting up and supervising the school calendar, the agenda for monthly Board meetings, the annual budget, and the school policy handbook for staff.
  • Approving all admissions, transfers, promotions, accelerations, retentions, suspensions, or expulsions for K-8 in line with the policies adopted by the School Board.
  • Interviewing prospective students and their parents for K-8 enrollment.
  • Supervising the administration of proper tests to prospective students.
  • Locating, interviewing, and recommending teachers and other school personnel for employment. 
  • Recommending to the School Board teachers (K-8) who should not be rehired.
  • Working with the teaching staff (K-8) and the Preschool Director.

C.         Supervision of / Relation to staff

The Administrator is responsible for the overall supervision and well- being of Teaching Faculty (K-8), Preschool Director and Support Staff.  This is accomplished by the following:

  • Overseeing the scheduling and coordination of all class periods and other school activities for K-8, such as P.E., chapel services, duty rosters, etc.
  • Overseeing the scheduling of supervision for K-8 of the playground, halls, gymnasium, cafeteria, and restrooms. 
  • Ensuring that the K-8 teachers and staff understand their duties and responsibilities.
  • Encouraging the professional growth of the K-8 faculty. 
  • Counseling with teachers, students, and parents in solving problems.
  • Using classroom visits and interviews to help K-8 teachers increase their professional effectiveness.
  • Overseeing K-8 teacher teaching credential validation. 
  • Dealing with problematic staff issues according to Matthew 18:15-17.
  • Representing the needs and interests of the school staff before the School Board.

D.         Relationship to Students

The Administrator develops an approachable climate and tries to get to know each K-8 student personally.  He/she is also responsible for developing in each student a wholesome respect for constituted authority in the school, to maintain good pupil control and discipline and to handle all serious discipline problems beyond the responsibility of the teacher. This includes:

  • Establishing and supervising proper standards of pupil conduct. 
  • Establishing and maintaining a consistent standard of discipline.

E.          Office Management

The Administrator oversees and supervises the school office personnel.  He/she is responsible for overseeing that accurate financial records of Albany Christian School (P-8) are maintained and ensure office personnel perform accurate attendance and enrollment record keeping for all students.

F.          Public Relations

The Administrator represents the school to churches, schools, civic and community organizations.  He/she communicates regularly with the school parents by newsletter and/or other forms of communication.  He/she also promotes WCC to families.

G.         Leadership within WCC

The Administrator represents the school within the church (in settings such as Elder/Staff Meetings), and in a broader sense, functions as a vital part of the church leadership team in setting direction, teaching, providing care, and helping to implement strategic ministry.

IV      Compensation/Benefits:

The ACS Administrator salary will be DOE plus benefits as stated below.
