Job Description
The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and ensuring smooth workflow. This includes performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. The role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and explaining the process of venipuncture or other specimen collections in a clear, courteous manner.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Fully understand all physicians' orders.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport.
+ Store specimen samples according to required temperature and procedures to maintain integrity.
+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
