Position in this function is responsible for drawing blood on patients, performing necessary in-house testing, and preparing specimens sent to reference lab.

Position in this function is responsible for drawing blood on patients, performing necessary in-house testing, and preparing specimens sent to reference lab.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood products
- Performs venipuncture using vacutainer, syringe and butterfly techniques; capillary punctures using heel and finger stick techniques on patients. Identifies and labels specimens
- Conducts designated laboratory testing
- Instructs patients on urine collection procedures. Allocates urine specimens
- Cleans and sterilizes equipment, instruments, and work area
- Inventories supplies and places orders
- Enters laboratory data into computer system
- Maintains patient confidentiality
- Enters Data accurately and timely
- Monitors biohazard waste
- Ensures preventive maintenance is performed on all equipment and monitors
- Responds timely to abnormal and panic values
- Maintains knowledge of all routine container and minimum volumes required for specimen collection
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- Certified Phlebotomist or the ability to obtain the certification within 180 days of employment. Phlebotomists who are hired prior to receiving their certification are expected to perform at the same level as a "certified" Phlebotomist
- 1+ years of related experience
- Computer literacy
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine blood and urine tests
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Proven ability to maintain all materials for collection
- Proven ability to read and understand oral and written instructions
- Proven ability to follow written protocols
- Proven ability to work independently
- Proven skill in operating a variety of laboratory instrumentation
- Proven skill in preparing written reports concerning the results of laboratory tests and input data into computer system
- Proven skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public
- Proven good communication and customer service skills
- This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of disease
- Current National certification or registration as Medical Assistant or ability to obtain within 180 days
- CLA or ASCP Certified
- 2+ years of experience in a medical setting
- Ability to properly drive and operate a company vehicle
- Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
