Description

The Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant will provide clinical support to physicians including drawing blood, taking patient vitals and facilitating patient flow through the office visit. This role also covers some care management and front desk functions such as check-in, check-out, follow-up appointments, referrals etc.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for taking blood samples from patients for medical testing and procedures.
  • Preparing and labeling samples for testing, processing, and storage.
  • Responsible for taking patient vitals and blood pressure.
  • Coordinates the collection of samples/specimens and submission to labs.
  • Ensures cleanliness of exam rooms.
  • Maintains medical-supply inventories and escalates supply requests.
  • Enters clinical patient information into the electronic medical record system. Obtains diagnostic reports or hospital notes for the patients' record. Generates after-visit summaries.
  • Oversees the charting process to ensure that information is updated completely and accurately.
  • Registers patients within the EMR. Completes full registration for new patients and eligibility verification for all appointments/procedures. Resolves registration issues prior to patient appointment to ensure smooth check-in.
  • Confirms patient appointments.
  • Verifies patient insurance eligibility and obtains necessary pre-authorization numbers, if required, prior to appointment date.
  • Checks patients in/out, schedules follow-up appointments and processes referrals.
  • Answers phones, responds to inquiries and triages calls to appropriate personnel.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Must have at least one (1) year as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Coordinator, or related healthcare experience.
  • Phlebotomy certification required.
  • Direct patient care experience preferred.
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks preferred.
  • Experience with multi-tasking.
  • Experience in primary, geriatric and specialty care preferred but not necessary.
  • Applicant must have the ability to work 12-hour shifts and alternating Sundays.
  • BILINGUAL - ENGLISH / SPANISH or ENGLISH / CREOLE is preferred.
