Job Description
The Financial Controller will join our finance leadership team reporting directly to the CEO and Finance and Risk Director. The Financial Controller will be responsible for managing all finance and accounting operations, including payroll, financial reporting, and maintaining a comprehensive system of internal controls to mitigate risk and ensure compliance organizational policies and standards
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounting and finance operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable, tax compliance (income and sales/use tax), and payroll functions.
- Prepare and review accurate monthly financial statements and analyze financial results for trends, profitability, costs, and compliance with budgets.
- Reside in the office downtown to provide immediate check issuance and the facilitation of customer satisfaction.
- Implement and manage internal controls to ensure adherence to financial and tax reporting laws at federal, state, and local levels.
- Provide financial planning and analysis to senior management, identifying opportunities to improve financial and operational performance.
- Ensure timely and accurate tax filings, leveraging internal and external resources to address tax issues and audits.
- Continuously evaluate and improve department processes, implementing new practices and automation systems to enhance efficiency.
- Lead the month-end close process with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
- Prepare and analyze general ledger accounts and reconciliations.
- Execute ad-hoc analyses and special projects based on business needs.
- Manage and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and engagement.
- Ensure effective management of department resources and lead continuous improvement initiatives within the finance department.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a finance leadership role, with a strong focus on corporate/fund accounting.
- Proven expertise in day-to-day accounting and financial management.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required; CPA certification preferred.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Passionate about working in a mission-driven organization that impacts clients and communities.
- Quickbooks online experience and excel experience preferred.
- Technology integration understanding is a plus.
